I think I'm going to have to try some of the Big Game as well. According to the Alliant data online, Hunter is a better powder choice at this weight, but I have Big Game...... I have been hunting with a 120 TTSX loaded with BG and it is great. 3180 fps at 1 grain under max.

Safe in my rifle only, not recommended in yours:

46.2 grains Big Game
150 ELDX
WLRM
R-P brass
2.183" BTO
2789 fps

Under .5 moa, I'll start shooting at distance when the fire danger permits.

I'm going to start down this road with a new tikka ss 7mm-08. 150gr ELD X, win brass, No RL17 or Big Game in town, but I did score some Ramshot Hunter to start with and have some varget. I'm going to try to start at mag length without modifying the mag or bolt stop. The scope should be here wednesday (SS 3-15x42), so I'll strap on the snow shoes and start the testing this week.

Big Game is available online. The three Tikkas I load for shoot bugholes with it, close to 2800 fps. I think Hunter is too slow. It's all I use in a few .30-06s.

I’m getting 2700+ out of an 18” barreled 7/08 with 46.5 grains of H414 and a CCI250 with the 150 ELDs.

4064, 4350, and RL15..... would barely break 2600.... though I haven’t shot any RS Big Game out of it yet.

Do you measure from the ogive or the tip of the bullet?

Do you have access to a long-action bolt stop?

As you probably know 2.8 coal is as long as I can go without modifying the bolt stop and getting a long action mag. That puts me with a .13 jump off the lands. I’d rather keep the SA if I can get it to shoot over 2700 FPS, I might get lucky and find some big game this weekend at the gun show. I’m hoping to try the hunter at 2.8 Friday. I wanted something that will reach out a bit and not be brutal at the range and lite enough to hunt. It’s getting a
SS 3-15x42 and I’ve got local ranges to 1700 once the snow melts. The 150 and 162 eld x is what made this caliber interesting to me.

My nephew's Tikka shoots the 150 ELDX with 46.2 gr Big Game at 2.156" from the ogive. Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primer. Start low and work up.

Two of my Tikkas shoot the same recipe at 2.183" from the ogive. This length requires a long action bolt stop.

Three deer and one bull with the 150 out of a 7mm-08, one buck, one bull, and one cow with 162 from a 7mm Rem Mag.

Haven't caught one from the -08, exit on the buck, gutless on the bull from the 7 Mag, didn't recover, caught the one from the cow, about 50% retention. No complaints!

Edit to add, nothing needed a second shot. My nephew hit his bull again because it was standing and that's what we do.

Pharm, have you tried the 162gr ELDX in the 7mm 08? I have a few hundred of those, and want to try them in my new rifle. I use that bullet in my 7WSM and it is extremely accurate.. im also wondering if you suggest using a magnum primer with rl15 or big gamepowder?

Were you able to find some biggame powder? I shot 162 hornady btsp out of mine they shot very well, but my concern was/is velocity. I should revisit that bullet weight in the eld-x and chrono it along with the 150gr eld-x.

Nope, 150 only. I load the 162 in a couple 7 Rem Mags. And yes to the Magnum primer with Big Game. I like the additional velocity I get with the 150 over the 162. So far so good.

I’m probably taking my model 70 featherweight in 7-08 going to use 150gr eld-x for my sheep hunt in the Tok management area (TMA) I’m seating my bullets to 2.150 BTO.
