Do you guys have any idea of the number of 99 G's in 22 HP manufactured compared to the other G calibers?

After around 1921 the 22HP's went down hill pretty fast. The .30 calibers were king.

E,F, G more common than EG and T's but they were also made for more years.

I think any .22HP with an original later style raised ramp front sight (1928-1940) is a good item.

I thought I owned one! but when I had it lettered, JTC said it started out as a 30-30, but the guy that bought the "G" 30-30 was the guy that invented the Dare Devil spoon, he was also a gun smith, and owned a big sporting goods store. JTC said hes sure that at that time Savage would have sold him a 22HP barrel. the rifle looked about new, and wasnt redone. have the letter somewhere around here. I sold it to a friend, and guess he still has it, I asked that I got 1st dibbs if he decided to sell it!

Mine is 3303xx with a factory letter and not near as crisp as Griz's. That is a fine looking rifle.

David,

If you ever get tired of that EG in 22HP, please let me know. It is at the top of the list of wants.

I have a model E 22HP inbound, should arrive in about a week. 270xxx The wood is really rough but I am ok with putting a new stock on it. Just wanted a solid frame 22 HP, never been a fan of the take downs.

Will do but I warn you the wood is nasty. Also will likely need help as I can get pictures to the image gallery but need to figure out the downsizing to be able to attach them to a thread. In fact I am not sure how to even find the pics I do have on image gallery.

Great Jim, we can compare 'nasty' before pictures. That will be a fun thread!

Don, that's a beauty of a G, and 22HP! what do you think let the checkering go dark while the finished wood stayed so blond, did the unfinished checkering get oiled in factory?

I think its just the way the end grain in the checkering took the varnish, makes it look darker.
