The latest addition to the yuppie tractor collection. If we can't get chit done now with four MFWD tractors something is wrong!

'07 6430 Premium, we don't need the loader for how we plan to use this tractor and might just take the bucket off and leave the frame on.

Replacing an early 1970's IH 656 so I guess it was time for an upgrade, hopefully it's as reliable.......
(kept the 656 and traded in a 1976 IH 1066)

I like blue, but as one JD fan once told me, green is the color of money. The resale on JD's are fantastic.

That is a sweet tractor, and one that looks like it was well cared for, lots of windows for taking great pictures! And they have a really nice beer holder too.

blanket, parts do not seem cheap for anything!

Jim, ol' Sam likely will not speak to the likes of us anymore. "Pick me up on your way down".

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, the wrong color.....

Jimy, lots of windows and lots of buttons. Actually too many buttons and a fancy little touch screen which neither my dad or l have idea how to use. Think old flip phone users....

They make a standard 6430 that doesn't have all the computerized stuff and we would have preferred that version but this was the first 'little' JD that we had found that was a local trade. I spotted it the first day it was listed and told my dad that he'd better call ASAP if he wanted it. Decent used JD's go fast around here as there is such a limited supply.

The old 2WD IH is getting tired and we have enough packed snow in the feed lanes that the MFWD should come in handy here in a week or two when things finally thaw out.

Jim, dad was pushing snow yesterday with the Versatile and I was digging away with the 4450.
There is more snow to the east and west of us, we're gonna wait and get our moisture in the form of rain.....I hope....

Anson, it has just over 3500 hours and has the IVT transmission which we thought would be handy for pulling the mixer wagon. The loader appears to be basically unused.

It's bone dry under the snow, zero sub moisture so maybe it will soak in quick.

I've been meaning to take a snow sample(on the level) and try and figure out just how much moisture is in the snow.

If I start whining about mud this Spring kick me in the nuts!

After last year's drought mud will be a GOOD problem....

Always nervous buying a used machine...

Just checked the dealers website and see our old 1066 is already gone. That didn't take long.

That looks like a beautiful tractor, I still ride the John Deere model M that my grandfather bought new, you will learn to love the new stuff, and that transmission, Deere is so far ahead of the red stuff, you just have to pay to play, you made a great buy!

Jimy, I've only driven it around for a few minutes so far and it is nice.

My dad has used it to load chopped feed into a mixer and has also picked about 4 bales off a little haystack. 1600-1700lb bales.

He got in the pickup this morning and said that is NOT a loader tractor.... He was laughing and I said we didn't buy it to be a loader tractor.

I guess we could sell the loader but might as well keep it.

Sam, how does that IVT work? Are there different gears like a power quad or just sliding control like a hydrostat? I assume it has a reverser. Looked at a 6430 last year here while on my tractor search but it was a power quad. It had been used pretty hard looked like.

Anson, the IVT has a lever like a hydrostat but it also has a little wheel on the lever where you can fine tune the speed. I haven't operated it enough to really give a better description but it appears to be pretty handy.

Yes, it has a left hand reversor as well.

We have 16 speed power quads(with reversors) in a couple other loader tractors and I really like that setup.

The left hand reversors will spoil a guy......

Sam, upcoming farm estate auction here-

6430 MFWD Premium F-range 4K hrs., rubber original, not the best (year not listed).

673 self-leveling loader 8' bucket, bale stabber, pallet forks.

Local cowman, duties were haying & feeding for cow-calf herd. Used, but not abused.

Ballpark idea what this rig should bring?

Cowdoc,
I'm not Sam, but in looking at Tractorhouse with same tractor/similar hours and loader, it looks they are selling for $48,000 and up.. I've been to many auctions where they bring way more than you can buy them from at a dealer though...

Cowdoc, I've looked at quite a few on Tractorhouse and like tburkepa stated, they start around $50k on up.

There were a couple really nice ones in the midwest(we're in northeast MT...) that were a better deal than the one my dad bought but by the time you truck it over here and buy sight unseen you might as well buy local.

Ours was listed at $61,500 which is about average price.

But we also did trade in an old IH 1066(rough around the edges but a good runner) and they gave us a decent deal on that. I forget what we paid with the trade but it was fair. The $61,500 is before trade list price, we ended up around 50k after trade.

Just paying 'cash', no trade, I bet you could have got it for maybe $58-60k. But then again it was a brand new listing and those little tractors are hard to find around here. They might not have come down at all.

On the flip side I see one on C&B Equipment, 2011 with 3k some odd hours, 673SL, looks to be in great shape and they want $87k!

Auctions are a wildcard, just depends on who wants it more!

The tractor & loader (no bucket or forks) brought $55K. Everybody i talked to thought it would bring more. If grain prices were higher, it would have.

There's a JD7800 with a For Sale sign on it beside the road on the way to town.

I'd like to drive it, but it's been there a couple of weeks. Something's wrong with it, or it's way too much money.
