Looking at 8 foot brush hogs. Two brands easiest to get here are Land Pride and Bush Hog. Prices are almost identical. Both supposedly stout enough to cut 2" brush.
Opinions on brands? Leaning Bush Hog but I think both are good mowers. Land Pride model is RCF 3096. Bush Hog is 3308. Bush Hog cuts 8' 3" vs 8' for the Land Pride.
I'd like to buy used but am not finding any. Eight feet is about wide as I can go and still go where I need to mow.

Bush Hog is the one by which the rest are judged.

Looks like Land Pride got voted out! All the comments match my opinion that Bush Hog is the way to go.
Now I need to pin down two dealers for the lowest price. I have a Bush Hog 267 now. Any idea what it's worth? I have about $1500 in it and have owned it for 12 or 13 years. Paint is faded on top but it is mechanically excellent.
Also am going to sell my New Holland 256 hay rake. How much is it worth? I'm getting out of the hay business. Sold my baler last year.

Like mentioned by others, Bush Hog has good resale value.
You gotta watch those dealers. They want to trade your stuff in for nothing, have you pay top dollar for their stuff.
I think dealers sometime make more on used stuff than new. I've been told that's true in the auto business.
Sometimes you can sell direct. In LA, we have our "Farm Bulletin" where farmers can advertise their stuff. Check locally, MO may have similar. Some Farmers Coops have bulletin boards where such stuff can be posted. Selling direct for cash, gives you more leverage, buying for cash.
Dealers are there to make money. Good ones are there to serve their clients, making a living doing so. But, buyer beware and keep a close eye on those guys, don't let'em wear you down. Hard to beat a man at his own game, and dealing for equipment is a game...
IMO.

I have been to sales lately looking for a hay rake. I finally bought one several weeks ago. A NH 256 in good condition has been bringing in the $1000 range, and I've seen several go for over $1200. Now, I'm in an area with a lot of Mennonites and Amish, and they're the primary buyers on these rakes, and they don't mind spending the money.

My neighbor who puts up hay for a few customers, says to price it at around 1200 and it should sell for 1000. I paid $460 for the rake about 20 years ago. It has steel teeth and I have never broken one but I don't run it into the ground much either. Some of the newer ones have rubber teeth now.
We have Amish and Mennonites not too far from here. I used one to build fence once. It's interesting how they use machinery. They don't use self propelled equipment but will set a baler up with it's own engine and then pull it with horses. My fence builder was putting a diesel engine on a round baler and planned to pull it with a bunch of horses. That would be a heavy rig. No telling how many horses it would take.
I ordered the Bush Hog 3308 today. Should be here in 2-3 weeks. They are building a run of them soon.
I am not trading in the old Bush Hog. I'll sell that myself.

My hunting bud has the JD version of your new cutter. Good machine, tough. He likes it.
You'll like this one.
