The sherm short is a 7mm SAUM case that the gets pushed back .95 thousandth.
This starts with a 243 wssm and is set up to have an Ackley style positive contact at the neck shoulder junction. Makes it easier to fire form than a stupid faux shoulder it ends up with a 40* shoulder.

It’s what Winchester should have put to market instead of the 25 wssm.
If I get 130’s at 3150+ I’m canning the 6.5-284.

I did get a resize reamer to cut dies with as well.

An unformed case holds 50 grains of RL 17. I’m sure 54 + once AI’ed with the 40* shoulder.

So about half way between a Creedmoor and a PRC?

Is WSSM brass still fairly available? Can’t say I’ve ever seen it, not that I’ve looked though. Looks fun.

It’s available now at most every retailer. This has been a plan for near two years. I was just waiting for brass to be available. I put four hundred in the loading room for this project. May grab 100 more.

I don't know about this...

That round looks like the recoil would permanently knock the hair off the top of
ya head if you were 4 ft 13 inches tall....or less

but on the good side, I don't think it would harm your Foo Munch Chew....

ya know, that thing on a face, the Drill Sgts said was a shock absorber for a high speed Cock Sucker?

My vote is to call it the Milford Midget Magnum...

does the WSSM stand for Winchester Short Stupid Manwannabe?

Inquiring minds wanna know... ya know...

The 3 word name that is all M's is kind of awkward. It doesn't roll off the tongue, so if one just called it the "M3" as in M cubed since I can't remember how to show the little 3 as being the "cubed" part. That will make it even cooler. You know, like the "Bob". Hope y'all don't mind me weighing in on this.

There’s no shame in the colorful and creative presentation of a technically rigorous subject like cartridge wildcatting.

LOL. The triple F I’m crying. 😆

First one is going in a Remington model 7 with a hightech stock. Going Mini M16 extractor bolts bushed and has Ptg pin. Barrel will be a 8.4t obermeyer it’s getting contoured Bartlein 3b with a [bleep] load of flutes. Going kiff DBM and running accurate mags. Timney trigger but a trigger tech will probably fix that.

This is the Donor

If it does what I am hoping then the next one will be a Winchester model 70 push feed.

Buffalo was a pet just the only pic I had of the donor rifle.

The two rifles on the left will end up getting rebuilt.

[Linked Image]

And I will probably try to find another model 7 or two would be nice for the whole tribe to be shooting the same thing.

Some nice iron there. How long is the tube on #4 there, Fred?

29” plus a break. I sent the one on it packing. For a side vent made by Scott Weichel of live oak Precision.

The new brake

It’s a prototype I’m in love with it.

Can watch the 300 grain Berger at 2800 hit at 300 yards sometimes even at a 100.

I went the varmint direction for most of my custom builds...I wanted to enjoy more shooting out of my rifles that small fur provides with an abundance of targets...I only did 2 semi-custom builds on my big game shooters 300 Wby's with Lilja tubes and whatnots with stocks, actions slicked and muzzy breaks to protect my tender shoulder...Grin!.....My elk rifle, an older Sendero in 300 RUM I bought from a guy who added a wicked looking muzzy break to it. (can't figure out the name of the break; I think the guy said he had a buddy Gsmith make it) He only sighted it in and decided he didn't like the weight of the rifle...Sold it to me for cheap...I only bedded it. Dang rifle shoots as good as my Lilja tubes. I got really lucky I figured on the Sendero.

Fred, I've never wildcatted any caliber, unless you consider the 20 Practical I am building right now as one...But, there's plenty of them around, so, I am not making fire for the first time, as, I think you may be...Keep them pictures coming bitch! Love seeing what you are up to...Mark

No, I've been meaning to order a few kits. They were out of stock when I needed them, so I bought a few ARC mags. They've been running great honestly.

5 rd Accurate Mags would be nice though and are my go to in a few other set ups.

Had to send the reamers back to get recut the neck needs to be .301 and the resize .2965 that gives a .0005 neck turn. The
Necks from 243wssm brass are .022 and once bumped up to .264 run .019” the recut will allow for a slip fit on no turn or ..0005 with a thousandths off. I will most likely be taking.002 as the brass is thick enough and it definitely needs cleaned.

Damn you. Just took delivery of 6.5 Saum build. Have a model seven with mag boltface sitting around and I can’t believe I’m saying this but am considering a 223 wssm for pigs and critters smaller than deer after reading this thread

Very nice. 129 ablr for me. Nothing too exotic as 400 yards is as long as I can shoot. Out west on vacation now but hope to settle on a load when I’m back next week
