I'm looking to scope a .223 Howa Lightweight. To me, a trim 2-7 with a couple o' dots on the vertical crosshair would be just about perfect on such a rifle. I own, and am well pleased with, a few of the 2-7x32 Vortex Vipers. However, those are discontinued, and it seems like scopes these days just keep getting bigger and more cluttered with bells 'n whistles.

FWIW, I was loaned for one hunt, a rifle wearing a new style 2-7 Redfield. I loved the size, but I found the view to be kinda dark.

Am I stuck with a VXI or VXII 2-7, or are there any other options available?

Thanks,

FC

"Tweeners" are my favorite type of scope. Work perfect for my needs,
So I'll say that options are very limited in this category after
Trying to find what is out there myself.

You might look at the Nikon 2-8x32.

The Vortex Razor HD LH 1.5-8X32 is excellent and the best I currently know of. I like it better than my Kahles Helia CL 2-7X36.

Personally I'd take a Weaver classic V-7 2.5-7x32 over a VX-1 or Nikon Pro Staff 2-7 any day ending in "Y" and I own all 3. The Weaver is sharper, brighter, it's adjustments more positive and it holds zero.

I have a 2-7x33 Burris FFII(?) on my truck gun, chunky Weatherby/Howa 223.

The reticle has hash marks. Only I thing don't like is that the entire ocular housing rotates when adjusting scope power(BC's get turned wacky).

I leave it at 7x.

It's been a good little scope for bouncing around.

Sam,

How’s the eye box on that Burris? I’ve heard they can be hard to get behind.

The 2-8 nikon is in the monarch line. Also i forgot to mention the leupold 1.75-6x32,
a scope that I just ordered. Hopefully it's pretty decent.

That is one of my favorite features of the older Burris scopes. I wish they had never abandoned that. So handy to just grab the whole housing and twist.

I decided that I really wanted to go with a trim scope (especially the ocular housing) on this rifle. I found a VX1 2-7x33 with LR reticle, and a coupon code to get it down to $189, shipped.

It'll do.

FC, guess I've never noticed it being an issue.

Years back a friend talked me into buying a Burris II, first day of PA Buck season I found out the hard way that you adjust the power ring and loose your focus. Toss that new scope and went to a Conquest.

Last week I was told by lgs the new Freedom was using the same glass as the old VX-3, so I called Leupold last Thursday, I was 33rd in line so I left my call back number and 3 hours later I was told the VX Freedom was an complete upgrade of the VX-2 with improved glass, internals and turrets. Also the clunky big ugly power ring was designed so you can better turn it with gloves on.

Bigger question is why were there 33 people ahead of me? Did 33 people have questions or were they getting repair return instructions?

I just saw that today. What are the odds that shows up < 24 hrs after I go & buy that very scope?
