During the Atlantic slave trade period (1500 to 1866), 40% of all captured African slaves went to Brazil, at the time controlled by Portugal. Brazil received more slaves than any other country. Brazil was the last country in the Western world to abolish slavery.

Slavery is alive in several Muslim nations as I type this. Sex Slaves are common. The same nations in Africa where the slaves then were acquired. Are some of the same places used by the rich Muslims today. Where is the outrage from the EU? UN?

The Portuguese were the first slave traders. When they were exploring by sail the west coast of Africa, they found various black tribes dealing in black slaves captured in various tribal wars and raids. They bought them, took them to Portugal, and after awhile, began a steady business bringing up slaves from Africa and selling them all over the European continent, then in parts of South America, and the Caribbean.

The Arabs were very large into the slave trading business, also.

Left liberal "historians" have rewritten history to suit their purpose of blaming the United States for the slave trade.

Another interesting figure would be the percent of those captured and sent into slavery by their own race.

Sex slavery is alive and well, even in this country. I'm involved in a group that searches for missing and lost people. I've been hearing that the number of people who came up missing in the Myrtle Beach SC area was abnormally high for years. Then this shows up in October.

Kids, male and female are kidnapped, brainwashed and sold as sex slaves. Many end up overseas, but many stay here. It only takes a few weeks of this and most never try to get away. It becomes the only life they know.

The Brits were huge users of slaves in the West Indies sugar plantations. Many died there as well. Slavery is as old as mankind. Every culture in every country has used, captured or sold slaves. It's wide spread in the world today. For most of man's existence, it has been part of daily life. Like it or not.

Wouldn't that be 100%?

Sugar was the reason the Atlantic slave trade developed, not cotton. Europeans had an unquenchable appetite for sugar & the new world’s main purpose was to supply it.

Well, I deleted that post in the interest of self preservation, but think about it. Those wares really got picked over before they got here.

My son’s 7TH grade history class just studied that. Majority of the slaves went to Brazil and the Caribbean.

And how many people did the Egyptians enslave to build the pyramids?
