I have a Savage 24 in .222/.20 Dropped it this past fall and broke the barrels, the rear stock and triggers are fine, just the upper barrels broke.
My question, could I replace the barrels with another caliber such as .223/.12 ? Or any other combos?

Assuming that you have a 24V, you would need to stick with a 20 gauge lower barrel, the 12 gauge receiver/frame of the24F is larger/heavier.

24V barrels were made in 22 Hornet, 222, 223, 30-30, 357 Magnum, and 357 MAX, all over 20 gauge.

Good luck with your rebuilding project.

Thanks 260Remguy, yes it's a 24V. Would be cheaper to get multiple barrel combos <staying with the .20 ga.> then buying different rifles for different jobs. Say a .22 hornet/.20 for rabbits/quail, and a .357/.20 for deer/grouse.
Now next question, where would best places to look for barrels? Gun Brokers seem to be a tad high, but maybe thats the going price? $600 for a complete .222/.20 rifle? I gave $275 for mine, local gun store.

Savage 24Vs have developed something of a cult following since they were discontinued and some people will pay crazy prices for complete firearms and for loose barrel assemblies.

24Vs in 22 Hornet and 357 are a lot less common than those in 222, 223, and 30-30.

Good luck with your search.

keep an eye on ebay--they sometimes show up there
You didn't say what series 24V you have--if its an "A" series then only "A" series barrels will fit it--the rifle firing pin won't strike on a B,C,or D series barrel set so you probably have to replace it with another 222 barrel set--I don't think "A" series was offered in any other caliber

I assume (dangerous I know) the broke means they separated.
Surely there is someone out there that can soldier them back together again.

"""Dropped it this past fall and broke the barrels,""" As in dropped it while crossing a steep hillside, gun fell a couple several feet down into rocks, yes separated barrels and bent the rifle barrel a bit. Ended up with a twisted knee joint also. Was not a fun day.

I have a 24V, series C in 222 Rem over 20 gauge. My question is what does the alphabetic designation mean? My sense is that it refers more to chronological order than anything else but I don't know for sure. Can anyone help out?

Literally what it means? laugh No.

But I know some of them have the funky wedge shaped fore end, and the slip over barrel band with the front sight built in. (the same way the 24 Series P's do)
Where series 24V D's have a block between the barrels instead.
