For those that apply for these tags... Where would you put in that would be within 25 miles of Homestead?

And are they a difficult draw?

Thanks in advance,
Travis

It’s best to perform the Aimpoint droptest in alligator infested waters too.

Have fun.

Dunno you'll find what you're looking for in the Homestead area. Immediately west is the Everglades National Park (read: no hunting) and regardless of that in the region west and south of Homestead you're as likely to run into crocs as gators and they are protected. Which makes no difference to them, they might dine on you anyway.

Nearest place I know of that you might get into the game would be US41 west and north of the highway which is the Big Cypress Preserve (read: hunt with a permit). Wild card in the mix is the Seminole Res lands (Miccosukee Reservation) in the same region, I don't know how they roll with the gator season thing. West of Ft. Lauderdale via I75.

Units 404 ands 402 are the only ones within 25 miles I think.
11 permits each and those Miami boys beat that area up.

I suppose ya got your reasons to limit yourself to that area, it's sure not prime.

Just skin one off the side of 41 on the way there and call it good. (jk?)

One thing to keep in mind is, it's been my experience that after opening week it gets really hard to get close enough to one to get him. They just get really spooky, they go under when you get within a 100 yards.
Any other time of the year you'd be kickin' the same gator outta your way.

Obviously, the more permits a unit has the better the odds of getting drawn.
You do get to request multiple units and list them in preference order.

I've never not been drawn, but not necessarily gotten my 1st choice unit.

BTW, If I'm in the water with a 'gator or a croc, it's either entirely by accident or it's a homicide. eek

Those monsters scare me all out of proportion to the likelihood of them actually being a problem, for me.

Mike, funny thing about Al, he ain't the biggest lizard hangin' around, just the only one that wanted his pic posted on the 'net. There be an old bish that hangs about a mile west in Bennett Creek that is 14', maybe a little more. Intimidating experience to round the corner and see her on the bank 20' off the port beam...in a john boat...with a 6hp kicker. laugh
