I ordered a box of Missouri Bullet Co.'s coated "Slammers." They list it as a 325 gr bullet with an actual weight of 315 grains. Mine arrived today, and I weighed half a dozen just to see. They varied between 311 and 315 grains. The sizing was very consistent. I knew you don't get to pick the color of the coating, but I was a little bit surprised to find that mine were bright red--very bright! Oh well, no big deal. I had picked up some HS-6 in anticipation of getting the bullets and also had some brass ready to go. I got my load data from John Linebaugh's page (https://www.johnlinebaughcustomsixguns.com/writings). He listed a starting load of 12.5 grains of HS-6 with a 310 gr cast bullet. So I loaded up 6 rounds to try.

One of my daughters dubbed them the "Lipstick Bullets." I have no idea why...




I did like how they fill up the chambers.


I ran over to the range just to see how they shot. For a starting load, the recoil was plenty stiff. Plus most of the fired cases (4 of them) stuck in the cylinder. Since these are just going to be plinking rounds, there's no need to flirt with high pressure. I'll drop down to 11.9 gr on the next 6 and see what difference that makes. Here's my 50 ft target:

Nice shooting & nice looking bullets. I have a mold that drops a 325 gr bullet with a little less meplat that I've taken 3 elk with. Mine were loaded with H110 & a magnum primer, elk don't seem to like them much! I also powder coat mine red.

Good range report. FWIW I've used Linebaugh's 45 Colt 'working loads' data with HS6 for several years now with perfect satisfaction.

I bought the HS-6, because his H110 loads looked pretty fierce! However, I wanted something with a little more poop than the run-of-the-mill loads for the old SAA guns. I though HS-6 might prove to be that perfect "in between" load--big bullet, definitely some oomph to it, yet won't sprain your wrist by the fourth shot.

That's awesome! I plan to take my revolver hunting this year, although I've got a 250 gr load dialed in and will be hunting that.

Wade, most of my photo's are locked up in Photobucket but I do have some of them. This cow elk was taken on a late hunt with my old model 45 & the 260 Keith. My buddy was shooting her with the range finder & when she stopped broadside at 168 yds I held some front sight & hit her through both lungs with an exit, she ran about 20-30 yds & dropped, lots of blood. The load was 23.5 grs of H110. The Montana whitetail was about 60 yds with a 5 1/2" Bisley just like yours with the same 260 Keith, she didn't go anywhere. The calf elk was taken with the 325 gr LBT from an Applegate mold at about 45-50 yds I think, double lung with an exit & dropped in 3-4 seconds. It was also taken with the 5 1/2" Bisley like yours, very nice six guns that will handle anything including the big bears with correct bullets & placement.

I sent Photobucket an e-mail asking them to unlock my account long enough to retrieve my pictures since they gave me no prior notice of holding my pictures hostage. They did & we parted ways amicably. Now, I keep all my pictures on my jump drive.

My girls always made fun of me for polishing my cartridges before a hunt.

Out of curiosity, what is the purpose of powder coating bullets? Did not know you could do that.

And, no leading in the barrel.

And, no smoke from the lube burning. My .45 ACP load with Titegroup and 230 gr cast bullets smokes like black powder practically.
