Friends,

I'm being given a BEAUTIFUL & WELL-SEASONED plank of Texas Pecan & am therefore now SEEKING a "standard length" (suitable for .30-06-length cases) action OR a barreled action with a bad/rusty/pitted barrel. - I would prefer a "controlled feed" action, as this will be a rifle for dangerous game.
(I'm now planning yet another 9.3x62mm rifle.)

Note: this pecan plank "has more stripes than the average tiger". = "Color me" LUCKY to have such a nice guy for a friend.

Should any of you have such a LH action that's in decent shape with/without a barrel, I would be interested in acquiring it.

You could always order a MRC action only. Might end up with a much better gun going that route anyway, than from the factory.

Or, some of the semi custom companies let you supply your own blank.

I've never even heard of a MRC action. Much less ever seen one.
(I've been a hunter for nearly 6 decades, too.)

Presuming that I can find a suitable "bare action", the rifle will get a SHILEN barrel from Ennis, TX.
(I know & trust those folks. ====> The last barrel that Shilen did for me some years ago, they volunteered to barrel my action & test fire it for NO additional cost = NICE folks to deal with.)

Should I find a action with rusty/pitted barrel, it will be another job for Jessie out at JES. = Jessie "reformatted" my trusty Model 760 from .30-06 to 9.3x62mm - His work is GREAT & reasonable in price, too.

I looked at the MRC website & see NO prices. - I suspect that that means that they are $$$$$$$$$$ & far more than I can afford.

They arent bargain, thats for sure.

The common complaints about their rifles are: weight, action feeding issues, long shank on barrels, poor customer service to fix issues.

These can be avoided by using your own gunsmith and barrel choice, but I'm sure the action cost is the prohibitive factor anyhow.

Donor rifle sounds like your best bet. Will still be cheaper than the MRC action alone.

WHEN/IF I get the new rifle completed, I'll post some photos. = You won't believe how "just downright PURTY" that that plank of TX pecan wood is.

I would guess that my top price for an action is no more than a typical used Model 700LH Remington would sell for in good shape.

Frankly, I had never considered buying a NEW & custom-made action from a firm like MRC.

Speaking as a lefty, I love the MRC action. I've found it to be slick and reliable. Didn't notice the cost to be outrageous. Here's one I have in .30-06.

For a CRF action, the cheapest route, is to find a used Ruger MKII or Hawkeye LH. Take apart and sell the pieces you don't need and build your custom.

Sounds like a GOOD plan. = I checked out the M77 & the Hawkeye left-hand .30-06 rifles.

I suspect, but do not know, that there will be someone who wants the stock off a niice/used rifle & perhaps the barrel too.
(IF the caliber is unsuitable for reboring)

talk to redneck, he has build many of us outstanding lefthanded rifles on 700 actions, hard to beat for accuracy,service and cost!!

I built a 9.3x62 on a 700 but its a push feed and I'm scared to use it on anything but whitetails.

AGREED 100% = That's why I that I specified a "controlled feed action" for a dangerous game rifle.

Going slightly up the cost scale would be to purchase a Zastava Left Hand Mauser rifle. And then work up from there.

Maybe you could get this one converted to 9.3? CDNN was closing these out cheap not long ago but this one doesn't seem bad.

No reason at all to avoid a Rem 700 setup...

Make sure the blank has really settled down as Pecan has a poor reputation for dimensional stability. Good blanks are the exception and if seasoned well may be just fine.
