The 1640 series is a modified small ring commercial action, usually referred to as an HVA action, that replaced the large ring 640 made by FN.

The 640 series were made on both "strengthened" SR 1896 style action, strengthened by omitting the thumb slot in the left receiver rail, and LR actions made by FN. Another one of those nomenclature issues where two different items have the same name.

Simpson LTD has a lot of 640s built on both actions.

So would a 1640 stock work on my 4100?

I bought a 30-06 1640 barreled action here on the Campfire for $300.00 shipped and later found a stock here that was not in the best of shape.

I refinished the stock myself, glass bedded the front lug and relieved the tang area.

These stocks are out there and with a little patience and search they can be found.

Some Flitz on the metal and it cleaned up nicely the 60 year old rifle.

I'm very impressed with the Husqvarna and this is a keeper. This is the finest balanced rifle I own.

Here is the results

Also, I am curious as to what people are using for scope mounts and what is available out there.

Also have a JC HIggins 51L, this one in 308. Stock had the block between the recoil mortise and the magazine broken loose. Some brass pins and accraglas made it usable. Plenty accurate for as much use as it had. This buck was taken with a 165 Sierra Game King sp just after I refinished the stock. The gloss has been cut back quite a bit these days, too shiny. Poor picture of the rifle, but about the only one I've got.

That is a beautiful rifle. How did you handle the bolt release? Is it under the edge of the stock or relocated?

The stock and the bolt release are original, I made no changes except for rebuilding the web section of the stock and refinishing it.
It sure handles nice, the heavy wear in the barrel worries me but it still shoots MOA or better with several loads so it will probably outlast me.

Looks like yours has that ray gun type front sight ,too. Mine has that and is a High Standard. Mine is stocked with plain walnut with no checkering but shoots great year after year.

Yeah, that shark fin front sight isn't too compatible with soft cases. Not sure mine is walnut, it's too light in weight and color. I used a stain with a little bit of red tint. Weighs just under 7 1/2 lbs with a Burris fullfield II 3x9. I found a serial number manufacturing chart somewhere that placed it at about 1959 or 60. Not sure that site is still online.

This thread has got me thinking, I have this same stock, and mine needs some minor repair as well. I only have the HVA action as well, I've installed a Timney trigger and a 3 position Dakota safety. I've got to decided on what I want to chamber it in now as I'm kind of to that point. I'm thinking either 6.5X55 or .257 Roberts, don't need either but these are the two I'm most interested in.

Would make a great, lightweight rifle. Personally, I'm partial to the Roberts. With a bit faster than standard twist it would work well with the 120s on down. Not much on this continent that wouldn't cover.

Thought about that one as well, but I have a ton of 6.5X55 brass and dies from back when I had a KoO sporter. The thing wouldn't shoot minute of barn door so I sent it down the road but the guy who got it wasn't really interested in the dies and brass. It was a 6.5-06 when I bought the action, but 140's had to be seated pretty deep just to work in the magazine. That coupled with a 19" barrel just made me pull it apart.

That’s a beauty! I’ve got a small collection of vintage NOS mounts for the HVA. Let me know if you need one.

Certainly would be my choice Stewie....that is my favorite round...

for the American Types...I just neck up 257 Roberts brass, with a Winchester head stamp on it..
which I prefer over the Remington Brass....
