I bought the Caldwell w/o the tripod. I like it, so far. Everything is saved on their free app on my phone.

Me too. It's been a pretty decent package for the money, and I like the phone app.

The CE prochrono digital looks nicer and records up to 9 strings of 99 shots right on the chronograph. Comes with PC interface.

I bought a Magnetospeed chronograph and I'm pleased with it. I don't have to wait for a cease fire to set it up.

Magnetospeed about $180 complete?

Not that big of a difference really, seems a lot simpler also,

I've often watched guys at the range peering through their sights or bore while attempting to setup there conventional chrono,

akward moment there, shooting your Chrono screen dead center......

I bought the V3 kit at $380 so I can't say about the base unit. I also have a crony unit and I wrapped black tape around the rods about 4" above the unit and another 4" higher for a reference. Helps keep the bullets away from the unit. I read posts about the Manetospeed unit sliding on the barrel so I wrapped some duct tape around the barrel so the unit wouldn't slide forward. BTW, blue tape will screw up the readings because blue tape is bad!!! crazy

Purchased one on clearance. It actually works pretty well. The app worked with my old phone, but won't work on my new iPhone, it could be the phone cable adaptor I have to use. That said, I would save your money and purchase something better.

But you have to deal with it effecting load development... unless, of course, you always shoot with it hanging on your barrel, meaning even when not doing load development.

I like the MagnetoSpeed. My friend has one, and I have borrow it quite often. The MagnetoSpeed is awesome when light conditions are less than optimum and you can't use a traditional chronograph, or when the range is crowded and setting up a chronograph on a tripod would be near impossible. I don't bother with a chronograph while initially working up a load. I really only chronograph my loads towards the end of the process after I have achieved my desired level of accuracy for that given firearm and bullet/powder combination. If I'm not happy with a bullet, and or powder in terms of accuracy, I may forgo the chronograph entirely and start work on a new load.

I also like LabRadar chronographs, and will be ordering one very soon.

I have this and the magnetospeed. Both read virtually identical. It was comforting to see how accurate the pro chrono is.

I like the magneto speed for just working up loads. For example shooting 1 shot at each different powder volume. The down side is, it affects bullet impact point and groupings. So I find myself using the pro chrono more often, because I shoot groups more often. Where the magneto speed really makes a difference is if at a pubic supervised range and you don’t have to wait for everyone to stop before getting permission to walk out and set up the pro chrono. Also on rainy days, the magneto speed works without regard for water issues. If I just had one I would get the pro chrono.
