pulled the trigger on this new SxS last week......had an '09 Rhino 700.......

just had itch for newer machine.....biggest things I've noticed so far..after 65 miles.....

power steering....better suspension....more power from the 800 twin cylinder...

lots more space....61" wide.....our Forest trails are widening to 66"....BLM trails are that wide..

had to have the vented DOT glass windshield....rear plastic window...bed cargo box.....

adding 4500# Superwinch...along with swapping out the OEM tires/wheels....going to DOT

rated hard pack AT tires.....28-10x14 on all 4 corners......non directional....can rotate that way...

the 3 year factory warranty & the $2K promo off sticker also helped me decide....

yes we had 4" of wet sloppy snow this morning.......

Buddy has a 2016 T-Rex and he loves it, he put tracks on it and takes it out to his cabin in the summer/fall. Just don't get it stuck. lol

I’m a huge fan of Kawi SxS (have a 2010 tyrex and a 2017 FTX pro. They’ve been dead reliable. My only issue is during hunting season, I have to go through puddles and then the moisture freezes locking up the Tyrex disc brakes. Only thing I’ve found to address the problem is to ride the brakes bit before putting away hoping the heat evaporates some of the moisture..

Try hitting the brakes with a leaf blower - they make battery powered ones too.........

Beauty, just great beauty. Wonderful photos. I'd forgotten about some of the back country of Utah. It's been 35 years since I've lived there. I visit 3-4 times a year. But it's straight up I-15 to the parents home, and hurry back to AZ. One of these times, I need to take a detour. Hanksville, Fruita, Fremont... All of the old places that I played as a teen.

Very nice SxS you have there, tikkanut. Wonderful scenery and pictures also, I bet that's a blast exploring those areas.

As far as your SxS and the transmission how well does it hold back going down big hills?

the new SxS just turned 465 miles yesterday...it is just plain & simple a sure footed beast.......

had it in an area two weeks ago.....an old old dugway dropping in a very big 10 sq mile bowl....

very steep & loose rocks...even steeper on the way out.......low range 4x4 performed flawlessly...

pic one is yesterday....I go out more on weekdays meaning less people & activity..better chance of

seeing critters...I crossed fresh Bighorn tracks three different spots...hiked this canyon (pic 1)

but Sheep were gone...or very well hid...also found very fresh Bobcat tracks....this high desert is amazing

average elevation is 7000'....pic 2 is big bowl area mentioned.......Henry's on skyline

Skid plates and protection is a must for sure if a man is going to get in the rough.

I don't have a SxS yet, but on my ATV I have real good protection on the bottom and more than once there have been rocks rubbing the bottom of it in certain circumstances.

PS: Nice riding and pictures once again.

when I was a kid, you could still drive in to west deer lake. had to get a run at a couple of hills to do it. bring in a jon boat and stay for a week. hike up behind deer lake to green lake. you can still walk in from the east side. grampa, dad, uncles. 5 day UT fishing licenses bought in Page, along with plenty of ice and AZ beer. good times!

OEM Maxxis tires were 27-9x14 & rear 27-11x14

so I went with 28-10x14 and gained one inch clearance

not much....but didn't want rub issues etc....

rides nice & grabs the trail !

Yea difference for sure, looks like your already trying the new tires and wheels out.

Is that the radiator or oil cooler above the winch? Looks like there should be more protection in front of it if you ever hit the woods, to prevent limbs or other objects from striking it? Maybe I am over thinking the protection, it might be just fine the way it is.

I have the same Teryx 4LE 2017 model. Great machine and pretty much bulletproof. I want to upgrade to 28" tires as well. Are you stock height and are you having any rubbing issues?

I have that winch, and also have the wireless remote. The remote is da bomb, makes it easy to put up tree stands and towers by yourself.

As always nice pictures of your ride, 61 mile loop is a pretty good trip for sure. You see much wildlife in those areas?

Nice, that's some pretty good elevations your riding at for sure.

I have rode some ATV's here in the Appalachians where I live, some places are straight up, but our elevations are 6000 feet on down. I have seen my ATV digging with all four wheels wondering if I was going to make it up the mountainside, our mountains are different here than yours.

our local highest ridge.......established Jeep/4WD Forest road runs 11000'......

on a good heavy winter.......drifts may keep road closed till early August....

Forest does not plow these roads....not the case this year......only 54% snow pack

and its gone.,...

I really like the high country and views. Nice picture, the stream in the picture, fed by the melting snow pack or mountain springs I suppose?

Also is that some type of concrete water reservoir or catch basin on the left in the stream.

Nice riding for sure, your riding involves irrigation streams, some of my riding in the past has involved streams and black pipes that fed Moonshine Stills, yelp its tough territory here.

Wireless?

I got the wired remote with mine and I bought the wireless one on Amazon. Pretty cool, and works up to 100 feet away. Great for erecting tower stands etc. on your own.

Very nice, don't you guys call the major gullies a wash? Other words when I was out there in 2006 I would cross over a bridge on the highway and would see a sign saying _____ wash. When I looked over the side it was just a dried up stream bed, of course I expected nothing more than that since it was the desert.

I can imagine out there you have to be on your a game and ready for any flash flooding.

Most of the times in my part of the country we cross a bridge like that and we look over the side and see running water, such as a creek, river or stream.

That's just breathtaking!!!

You sure do a lot of riding. Do you ride by yourself often or do you have a group that rides together all the time? If I had that type of terrain to ride around here I'm sure I'd be out there a whole lot more than I am!

Tikkanut, very nice pictures as always, I wished I had those kind of places to ride.

Do you carry any extra fuel or do you pretty well know the distances of your daily ride and you return to the truck before you run out of fuel?

I know with my ATV I have been back in the mountains on a few rides and right at or before I got to a half of a tank, I had to turn around and head out. All of my ATV riding is in the lush green Appalachian Mountains, some of its stepper than a mules face. Elevations vary of course a person might climb more than 1500 feet or more on a ride, possibly more than that

Been on some trail rides that crossed private property where there was more than likely some real moonshine being made if you know what I mean..... grin

What impresses me the most about this machine is the fuel economy. My Polaris 850xp 4 wheeler will go 1 day and my Teryx will go 3-4 days. The Kawasaki is very fuel efficient. Tough as nails too.

Have to agree on MPG.......have not actually clocked it yet......

but seem awful darn good.......my riding territory has no fuel stops.....

so I've been dumping fuel in from a 5 gal jug... cry

latest addition.....my welder fab buddy designed & built this spare

tire carrier......have since painted & installed on machine..

fits like a glove & very solid...tire size is 28-10x14 all four corners.......

Broke the 1K mile mark today too ! oil/filter change next week

Boy I'd love to come out there and do some riding! Are there places that would rent a SXS for a day or two out your way?

I like the spare tire idea. Where do you carry your jack and tools, do you have some kind of bin in your storage box? I wish there were more storage room on the TeryX4 but it is what it is.

Also just out of curiosity, did you do the fuel tank breather mod on yours?

JT

we have a local guy that rents ATV or UTV...also jet skis

Rental is $200 something daily for his Teryx4......

Carry a bottle jack & a MTM plastic 50 cal dry box with asst tools

You're right....not much storage.....I've found some roof racks for $150ish

may get one......accessories for these things will run you broke........ cry

Great job on the tire carrier and the way its mounted. Smart idea to carry a spare and tools like you do, since you go so far back in them there Hills.

I just wished I had the places to ride like you do, since I am now retired I would be gone riding at least one day a week..

just turned 1K miles...65 hrs...so fresh oil & filter (3rd time)

whats nice...it holds 4 quarts....$23/gallon jug...$9 Wix filter

Also changed front diff gear lube...first time for it..just short of a qt

Rear diff also houses the rear brake system...wet brake fluid...really just

a glorified tractor hydraulic fluid...changed twice already..I'm an oil fanatic.....

Plan is to change every 500 miles or so.....even gave the ole girl a bath !

Sleepin' in the garage waitin' for cooler temps...

Tikka one never tires of these pics.

I passed through Utah going and coming to/from a Washington bear hunt and the smoke haze was very bad. Overnighted in Ogden and came out the next morning to find the truck and windshield somewhat coated with the fallout. Has that improved any along the 1-25 corridor at all?

Keep the pics coming.

Pretty sad about the truck driver, probably fell asleep maybe, forced off of the road, had a suicide wish, or medical emergency like a heart attack? We may never know for sure.

Tikka,

Great thread and pics! Nice looking machine too! I also just purchased a SXS. My first one in fact. It’s a Can am Defender 1000 3 seater. I’m pretty excited about it. Wish i was closer to you because i would love to take off on some of the rides you go on! Some beautiful country for sure. Not many places around New Orleans area to ride. I bought mine mostly for chores and such at the hunting camp but would love to go on some rides like i see you have. I hope mine serves me as well as yours has! Keep up with the thread and the pics as I’m sure I’m not the only one drooling over them!

Tikka, Love your ride and it looks like you've got the trails figured out. I'm building a list of trail riding destinations but being from the southeast I will have to fly in and rent. If you know of any rentals in your riding areas I'd love some info.

Also, I'm currently in the market for a 4 seater at home. Last time I researched the Teryx the one consistent complaint was that it is loud. Is it still loud or has Kawi quietened it down?

Seems all SxS's are loud to a sense.......the CVT belt is the culprit ........

along with the motor right between the seats......heat also can be an issue......

look around & test drive locally......none are perfect......your budget may help you decide

Honda 1000 will push $22K loaded.......wow huh ? Buy a used Tacoma !

They really beat you up on the dealer added options......Kawasaki has 3 yr warranty...

Very well built machine.......attention to fit & finish....very durable & solid machine

mine was $17K ish after $2K rebate OTD......PM sent........

The TinCock is still curious.

What is the tow rating of that 2018 Teryx4? How much weight can the shocks handle?

I measure weight in WI girls.... you should be good to go with 3 stacked up. We know it can’t handle 3 wide.
