Looking for a Ruger # 1-S Medium Sporter in 7mm Rem Mag or .300 WM.
Must be factory original in excellent to new/unfired condition with Ruger rings. Scope not necessary. This is for my son who is a left-hander.
Serious buyer will pay reasonable price for the right rifle.
Thanks JMV375

If I am remembering correctly, the 7 mag #1-S was Bill Ruger’s first #1 built. They are very nice rifles. I picked one up years ago as a donor and never did a rebarrel; it isn’t perfect but shoots plenty good and is a nice handling rifle. At the time there were many 300s also showing up on Gunbroker. Perhaps there still are? The S version has never seemed as plentiful as the Bs; kind of seems odd to me. Nice handling, pleasant to look upon.

I am thinking that serial# 3 was the 1S in 7mm RM, and serial#1 was a 1A in 30/06. Serial# 2 was a 1B in 25-06. None of these were the first No.1's made, as they were all put together a few years later. X1proto can confirm the caliber/configurations and if my memory is correct.

From my Data List of 2366 Known early No1 Rifles it shows SN 1130 AHS 7 Mag shipped Aug 68 as being the first known rifle in that Caliber,Configuration. Of course that is only 28 percent on the total non-prefix Rifles built but I think is a positive possible figure for the total production.

Some sources are saying the first one built was a 308, and that it, serial # 1, resides with the Ruger family. Don’t know.
I guess my recollection and and communication of said thoughts were probably off a bit. I don’t have my ‘Ruger and his guns’ in front of me to check but I’m still thinking there was something about a No. 1-S 7 Rem Mag being built for Bill. Thought there was a special hunt occasion involved as well. Perhaps someone will flesh out the details?

My book says Ruger's personal No. 1 was a 1S in 270; the same rifle they offered last year on his 100th birthday (though it was a poor copy of a non-prefix rifle). I never heard anything about a 7mmMag.
