Looking at a pair of summits, wondering if any of the fire members have tried them and what they thought.

Have two pairs of Vasque GTX 2.0 and one new pair in the box and love 'em! Lightweight, fit well and waterproof. Not stiff enough for a misstep on a talus or boulder field, though.

Vasque boots used to be made in Italy.

I wore through a number of them, and were impressed with their durability. They were also popular with guys who needed high performance footwear and worked in austere conditions.

Then Vasque started producing their line in China and quality took a serious nose dive.

I turned to Asolo (made in Romania) and never looked back.

Others mileage may vary.

Exactly the same thoughts. They used to be serious boots and took a bad turn.

I've had 3 pair of Vasques. 1976, 1989, and 2000. They're all 3 still in good shape, but my foot kept growing. I went from a 12 to a 14 as an adult. My son is wearing my last pair. The 1976 pair had two resoles.

The only Vasque boots I've ever had were the old waffle stomper type. They were some of the 1st Gore-tex boots made back in the 70's. They leaked like crazy. They were one of the companies that about put Gore out of business because they weren't using the membrane right and they got a bad reputation. Gore had to go to the companies using their product and demand that they do it right or they wouldn't be allowed to use the stuff. They weren't sealing the seams and were sewing through it without sealers.

I’m gonna try a pair of vasque erikksons. Good reviews and not too much $$. Got a amazon gift card as a b-day present so had to spend it on the interweb. I’ll post back when I get them.

Isn't Vasque owned by Red Wing?

I have had 3 pairs of them over the years. Wore like Irion relatively light. Good boots.

Last summer I bought a low pair of trail hikers. Feel great light good traction but the sole is separating from the shoe. ' China'

Asolo Powermatic 200. I have long skinny feet and they fit me perfectly. La Sportiva, Lowa, Crispi, Kennetreck, etc., I don't skimp on footwear. Personal preference. I also have custom foot orthotics, make a world of difference. I would go to a place that sells specifically hiking shoes and try on lots of pairs (REI ?) you'll find some that fit your needs, that's what I did. The more you try on the easier it will be be to figure out what works best for your foot. What I like may not be what fits you best. Vasques don't hold up like other shoes. I used to like them till their quality went south. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

The best boot is the one that works on your feet... having said that, current Vasque’s are essentially junk.

What’s the intended purpose for the boot you’re asking about?

Break ‘em in a good long time before a mountain/trip/hunt. 3 months down the road now and mine finally fit like a glove and have proven to be very waterproof. Wear them everyday of the week. Good support .They will outlast my Solamon quest 4ds which I like better but they suck in rain and snow. Steep steep mountain terrain/bushwhacking? I’m gonna save for some Crispi’s. You could do worse. Hope they work out for you!

They will be in the mail today. Just looking for some boots for my upcoming ( hopefully) backpacking hunt. Always worn traditional hunting boots but want to try something different. Lots of good reviews on these so thought I’d give them a shot.

Boots got here, really stiff and appear sturdy. I like the real leather . Time will tell how they break in and last but for now I’m really happy with them.

Vasque used to be the only boots I wore until Redwing bought them out and moved production to China. For years, almost every time STP would put them on sale I would buy a pair. When the sole fell off a almost brand new pair is when I figured out about Redwing & China. I haven't bought a pair since.

Exactly my experience. Have owned the old Vasque, an alpine pair from Germany made by Lowa, and one or two other Italians. Two years ago bought Asolo TPS 520 GV and am completely happy with them.
