I decided on a 4runner premium. These come with a fake leather that is easy to clean. They also had a Memorial Day special for 500 credit on some type of warranty. I chose the carpet and paint treatment. I don't have high confidence in such add ons, but it was no cost. I went to 2 dealers, this one was 8200 cheaper than the high pressure - sign today, scammers. This dealer gave me book on my trade in, and 2K off the price. It is my new hunting buggy.

Congrats Terry, it will serve you well. I bought the SR5 version in Feb for my wife. Its been great so far other than the hail damage it got. In shop now getting that fixed. Still own the 2003 we bought and its still running great.

4 runners are done right.

I've owned two. A '93 and a 2000. Should have kept the 2000. The factory locking diff got me out of some deep muck.

I am really impressed with the comfort and handling. Getting great MPG on the first tank. Rural roads around here, so mostly highway type driving. The engine is pretty wild, I never pushed the pedal past 1/4 way. Makes it up the hills around here with little effort. I am going easy on it since it is new. I guess the engine still needs time to break in? Anyway 22 is a lot better than the 16 mpg that I am getting in my first generation 4.7 Tundra.

Combined you should hang around 19. Push 80 and you won’t see 22. Maybe not 20 with Pa hills

Good luck with it. I went from a full size truck to a 4 runner a few years back to downsize. It did fine but after a year and a half missed my truck so traded it on a tacoma that I have for 6 years now. When the tacoma is ready to go I'll likely go back to a full size pickup. But the runners are nice vehicles.

After 12k miles I'm averaging right at 21mpg (using an app at every fill up). Service advisor I ended up becoming friends with said of the new Tacomas she sees, about 2/3 are low on transmission fluid, an equal number get complaints about the transmission, but 4Runners are bullet proof. Have a '17 TRD OR premium with KDSS. No complaints

My first tank was 22.6 mpg because it was mostly pure highway. I live in a rural area, so I really don't have traffic and my day to day commute is averaging 21.0 mpg. I am actually very surprised with the efficiency. I was going to get a new Tundra, and I am really happy I decided on the 4runner. I still have my cherry first generation Tundra, but I think it will go on Craigs list. For the limited amount of times I use the bed on the Tundra, I can get a nice 3000 pound aluminum trailer. I have 4 acres, so trailer parking/storage is not an issue.

Around here in the East Mountains, along the fabled Turquoise Trail from Santa Fe, RV and trailer parking is widely used. but it is between $85 and 100 per month. Locked gates.

Very fortunately, since I have inadequate turning radius on my place, a good friend nearby has huge space and a locked gate and in letting me park there for free. We will be elk hunting together in the Fall and plan to use it for that.

I have the SR5 Premium, and it is part time 4wd. The Limited model is AWD. The Limited is optioned more for suburbia not hunting. The TRD version is 4wd and has locking differential.

Still impressed with MPG. I have 2800 miles, and hand calculated it is at 21.8 mpg. I keep track on fueley.com. Solid 55 mph may see 23 mpg, but over 60 it drops. I mistakenly put in premium gas at SAMS, and that was my best tank by almost 2mpg. I generally fill the same way, so I am pretty sure it liked higher octane better, but it is too expensive for the estimated return.
My 4.7L Tundra gets 16/17. Almost 22 in the 4runner is a big increase, about 1/3 more mpg than my truck. I can actually go over a week on fill ups.

Living in Idaho again (around 3000 feet) and been using 85 octane - non ethanol, and last four tanks (with high temps) have averaged right at 23mpg overall mixed driving.

My g8-g8 uncle was Barney Riggs. Google and read about him. He roamed around the southwest, mainly west Tx and Az and NM territory. History credits him with from 9 - 12 men he killed, not counting Mexicans and Indians. Family lore has it at 18.

2016 TRD Pro and thousands of miles, checked a couple times, and it comes out to 18.1 to 18.3. Combined highway and local. Currently has 51,000 so it is mostly highway. 60mph here on the Turnpike and Interstates will get you rear-ended, so it is usually 70mph or a little more. I can nurse 20mpg out of it, but it becomes tedious. Pa has more than a little up and down. Flat country and 20 will be doable if you don't push it.

Today was fill up number 50. I track all the gas on fuely.com. Mileage has gone down because I an hunting and in 4wd, but over 16,000 miles I am averaging 20.8 mpg. I am still happy about the MPG compared to my 4.7 Tundra at 16/17 mpg. Still about a 25% improvement. I never had the 4Runner back except for the oil changes and tire rotation that are free. The 4Runner is great, but I liked the Tundra better, but I like going a week on fill ups.

We have 3 4runners in the family. A '97 with 309,000 miles, a 2000 with 247,000 miles and a 2001 with 252,000 miles. Maintenance is the key and they will run a long time. They are not hard to work on (3rd gens anyway)

I have owned 4. I will own more...current one is the 2004 Sport Edition with the V8. Love the AWD in any adverse winter driving conditions.
