I paid $2.69 for regular last time, just over the line in VA. WV tacks on a pile of extra tax by comparison. Only WV gas I buy unless I'm really low is the no-ethanol I get for my mower and tiller. That stuff must have gold dust in it, based on price anyway.

Hell, gas is actually cheaper in the Peoples Republic of Maryland than here. Someone suggested WV taxes extra to make up for the income tax they don't get because wages statewide are low. Could be. Now that I'm retired, I don't burn much, so the price isn't a big deal for me. When I was driving 90 miles a day round trip to work, it was a big deal.

The switchover is supposed to be a pricey process, but I've never heard why. Maybe there's an oil man here that can explain.

Another thing that's supposed to make it more expensive is the "special" gas they make for California to meet their state standards. That drives up the price for everyone, so I've heard.

They fabricate problems to have spendy solutions to solve them for us all...

back before the 1973 "Fuel Shortage", where refineries were full, and they just
wouldn't sell the fuel, and tankers set at anchor for months up and down the
east coast, so that they could drive up pricing with this supply and 'demand'
BS...

oil prices seemed to be stable all the time at 30 cents a gallon...with 'gas wars'
being the only change where ever you went up and down the entire east coast...

total lack of competition...

the blame it on 'speculators'.... when its called price fixing....

which is suppose to be illegal under the Sherman Anti Trust Act...
but then when government gets their cut, suddenly laws don't mean so much
anymore...

thank political corruption on that contribution to fuel prices..
which also seem to somehow drop during election cycles...anyone notice that also?

It's simple, really. High prices for anything is good for the seller and bad for the buyer.

Prices here rose with the new gas tax rates a while back. And Utah says it wants even more (naturally). We've been at $3.15 but last night I saw one sign at $3.09 so maybe it's drifting down a few cents.

I rarely burn more than a tank a month in my car, just going fishing and golfing. My wife drives more, making a couple 100 mile roundtrips a week.

2.59 for 87octane with %10 corn here. All I burn in any of my stuff is non ethanol and it’s always .20 higher. Last week prices dove a dime two days in a row and we were thinking it was going to be a good summer for fuel prices, then it jumped back up all at once.

I don’t know who makes all the money on fuel but I know it’s not the station owner. Dad fed, clothed, and housed us by owning and operating a gas station for 20 some odd years, for the last 15 before he sold out he never made more than .02 per gallon and a lot of the time it was .01.

Not much we can do but bitch so I’m going to head out and fill up my gas guzzler f350 and my environment killing 2 stroke outboard for a day of crappie fishing with the family.

The government makes more on each gallon than the oil companies, without lifting a finger.

Higher fuel prices over an extended period of time generally affects our overall economy and eventually the price of pretty much everything increases to offset transportation costs.

I've heard you many times say the same things. So, I'm asking YOU to tell us how daily fuel prices are set? Be specific.

BTW, during the oil embargo years, refineries most definitely were not full, not anywhere close. My dad was in the fuel business and nay have to go to refineries 1000 miles away to get fuel.

If I look hard, I can find it here for 2.58 or 2.59. Was in Richmond Kentucky this morning, and it was 2.99 there. Of course that was right off of I-75, and it's always costly next to an interstate.

What I don’t get is why are we paying the same price for gas at $72 a barrel as we did at $116 a barrel? I don’t understand the gasoline to oil cost differential.

I just talked to a friend in Wabigoon, Ontario, he said, $1,40 a liter in Dryden. That equates to $4.and change US per US gallon. OUCH!

Oil's at like $67 something now.

The delivered price per barrel is what the oil companies get. The gravy comes after that. Speculators refineries and distributors.
