Scored a Honda 6500 inverter.

Wondering what is the best oil for these Honda engines?

I have another straight Honda 6500 generator and 4 or 5 other 6-9 hp Honda small engines.

Use what the manufacturer recommends.

Last 4 or 5 years, I've been running Mobil One High Mileage, 5W20 in all of my
small engines....eases starting and they pretty much take the heat with no problem..

lower oil consumption also...compared to plain old 30 wt...

they get a lot of hours on them each season, but I have one mower engine that
has survived for 20 years now... and is on its third mower deck....

the property kills the deck, but I end up knowing someone who has killed their
mower engine, so I get the deck, by just "getting rid of the mower" for them...

all three of these engines are Briggs Quantum engines...

Have you been shopping in pickup beds?????

You seem to have the best luck finding cheap generators.


We used to run straight weight oil, now we just run 10-30 conventional.

Cold weather run a 5w30 synthetic.

I have a cousin who is a chemical engineer, working for an oil company. A few years back, I asked him about the best oils. He said that the best (at that time) was mobile 1. (A competitor) and they couldn't touch it.

I run Honda brand 10-30 in my eu2000i...I ain't takin no chances lol.

Any quality oil should be fine. Depending on how cold it gets where you live, you may want to have a summer weight and a winter weight oil in it. I tried to start my generator last winter that still had summer 30 weight in it and I could barely roll it over. I switched to a 10-30 synthetic.

I sure f....ked a new generator putting the wrong oil in it a few years ago. I use the recommended oil now, the Mobil 1 high mileage sounds like it works well.

My recommendation, being in the business since 1995 or so, is 10W30 of your choice. 30W in temps above 40 degrees is fine. Good quality oil, synthetic if you prefer. Got them still in service with well over 2000 hours.

Not quite that cheap. But I am relentless when hunting classifieds.

Another thumbs up for Mobil 1. I run it in all of my four stroke small engines. I run new ones for ten hours on conventional oil, change it with conventional, run ten more then go to Mobil 1.

Another vote for Mobil1 Extended Performance in 5w-20 or 10w-30, depending on if you run mostly in cold or hot weather.

Mobile 1, 10-30 year round for me,Generators are in my garage never gets below 40°F, eu 2000,eu 3000,5-30 For winter would be fine.That’s a fantastic generator you have.

The key is checking your oil for moisture, emulsified oil....... I would run recommend oil but 10dub 30 should work
fine. Change your oil. It gets water in it after sitting for long periods, in my experiences.

I use Amsoil Snythetic Formula 4 Stroke Small Engine Oil Rated as 10W-30 SAE 30. I was told it has a pour point down to -38 degrees. I use this in a B&S roto tiller, Honda lawnmower, a Honda 2000i generator, Generac generator, Honda powered woodsplitter, Kawasaki powered pressure washer and a B&S snowblower. Some units are more than 10 years old. No problems so far. I use Amsoil 0-W-40 in my Honda Recon 4 wheeler also.

I think it is a good oil to use in items that don't get oil changes on regular intervals. Tiller, mower,pressure washer, wood splitter and snowblower get limited use so I go two years on their oil, others are about 50 hours.

Napa 10-40 If it is 4 stroke and burns gas.
