I am not sure I would like this cartridge ,however I do like the Hawkeye and they are somewhat available in 204 at times. Should I decide to get one and later change out the barrel what are the cartridges that would easily work in the magazine and bolt face ?

222 & 223 Remington come to mind. Not sure about the 22 Fireball.

The .204 Ruger was developed to fill a niche which it does very well. If you shoot out the barrel, by all means, re-barrel to the .204 Ruger. If you have an itch for a .223 buy a lefty Ruger American to compliment the.204. I would doubt you will see the need. to do so.

It would take a 223 shooting a 53 grain VMAX to do what the 204 will do with a 40 grain VMAX. The 204 has better velocity & less drift.

The 204 has been my primary pd round for the past 4 years. I've shot literally thousands of rounds and it performs very, very well.

It don't take much to snuff out a PD,so why burn more powder and lead if that is your primary use.I shot one that belonged to a friend (? Savage 16 )I liked the low recoil.I do think I would want more gun for Coyotes and the possibility of Mr Wolf.I am sure a ton of coyotes have fallen to the 204 .I have a couple of rifles (22 -250 and a 243) that I need to shoot more PD with just to get more tuned in to for fur season.Nothing beats field and trigger time to get the bugs out of your shooting and equipment.Sig what 204 rifle are you shooting ?

My main battle rifle is a Blaser R8 with a semi-weight barrel, currently scoped with a Swaro Z5 3.5-18x44 BRH reticle. I also have a Hawkeye LH and a Tikka T3 LH that I use. I carry them at the ranch for coyotes, armadillos, skunks and such. Even a few little piggies.

204 Ruger yes. It's a straight pull, switch barrel rifle made in Germany. 40+ caliber choices, left or right hand. A traveling hunter's huckleberry and stupid accurate. www.blaser-usa.comhttp://www.blaser-r8.com

Maybe it would work just fine for me, looks like a man could work that bolt pretty fast if he needed a second shot.

The Blaser R8 is the fastest bolt action gun available. I'm sure there are some youtube videos available that show how fast you can run the bolt. The link, www.blaser.r8.com helps, too.
