What kind of speeds are they hitting on the straights? Close to 200mph I would guess.

The fast guys cover the 37 mile course in under seventeen minutes. Seventy-plus riders in a big event, riders start at ten seconds intervals, by the time the last rider rolls out past the starting line the leaders are like two minutes away.

If you can trust google, Kawasaki rider James Hillier has the highest top speed of 206 mph. Fastest lap average 129 mph.

Impressive speeds on a dedicated race course, doing so on bucolic country roads is mind bending.

And if racing the IOM on a motorcycle just isn't crazy enough, they have a sidecar class

Superbike races run six laps, about an hour and forty minutes of balls-to-the-wall racing.

One plus is heat ain't gonna be a problem, if it hits 75F that time of year they call it a record heat wave, hottest temperature ever recorded on Man is 85F.

The big difference is on most sections of a superbike race if you push it and go off the course the runoffs are relatively safe. You go off the course on the IOM and in most cases you're going to be seriously injured or killed. The difference in concentration between the two is night and day. In rock climbing we refer to it as DFU terrain, don't eff up.

As for calling it a Darwin Award type of thing........

They lose riders, and spectators.

Is what it is.

I think it grand that these guys have the health and nerve to push the limits of man and machine.

Yup, some get killed.

Beats getting old, fat and having diabetes IMHO.
