I just find the longers axes safer for chopping down trees, limbing etc. No doubt different axes for different uses.

I'm about to put a boy's head on a 36" haft.

Agree with you... Boy's axe pattern is another must have. Council Tool makes a nice one if you are buying new.

Council Tool.......the last of the old American ax manufacturers and a great value.
IIRC I paid less than $25 for the Council Boys Ax that lives in my truck.

Seriously, I have a slightly different model axe from Gränsfors Bruk too and I really like it.

I took a tour of the Gränsfors Bruk company a few years ago, and I met 3 of the dozen or so axesmiths. Each smith stamps their initials on every ax -- and if one of their axe heads ever cracks and is returned (no time limit warranty), that particular smith is subject to a lot of ribbing from the others. :-)

I zoomed in on your picture, and your particular ax was made by "EB" who is Eric Blixt. No particular reason other than I found it interesting to connect a particular ax to a face, but here is a picture of the guy who made your specific ax:

I just thought you (and your dog!) might find this interesting! smile

Cheers from Sweden,
John

John, Very cool of you to pass me that info, and picture of the guy Erik who made the axe head...Thank you!

Totally, wish it was the girl in the photo who made the axe, though...She’s way better to look at.

P.S. Dog says thanks, too...Mark 😎
