I went out tonight to shoot a couple quick ladders. Was only shooting at 100 yards as I was really just looking for flat spots as I went up in velocity. I was running 70 grain BTVs over Varget in a T3 .243. 11 shots at .2 grain increments from 39.6 to 41.6 grains resulted in a square shaped group that measured .75" corner to corner. Velocity was 3328 at the bottom end and 3486 at the top. Obviously these would open up at distance but I haven't seen anything quite like that at 100 yards with a 2 grain powder swing. Has anyone else experienced this with a stock hunting rifle?

Also had a T3X .260 put the first four 120BTs of a ladder into about a quarter inch. I was pleased with my Tikkas tonight.

Not sure how definitive a 100 yard ladder test would be, but it sounds like another easy-to-please Tikka...

I agree, this wasn't a traditional ladder as in trying to read the target, which certainly would have been a waste of time in this case as it was just a square hole. I had seen good accuracy with this bullet in the past at lower velocity and was working my way to the top end and watching for areas of similar velocity on the way up.

Ha!! That's pretty funny. Pop was an electrical engineer and I learned to print "like Dad" when I was young. First job out of high school was running the blueprint machine at a Civil Engineering firm. One of the engineers saw my hand writing and said "Schit, you're 99% a draftsman....any idiot could use a scale". Transferred me to his department and I was "pen & ink" for about 4 years. Even did a little street design...
