In this book a man imprisoned in a military prison for life for killing a little girl has sent for his attorney who represented him in his court martial 25 years before. The Army has sent him a letter that causes the prisoner to seek an appeal to the Supreme Court. A clerk at the Court reads the letter and removes it before it can be placed on the docket because he is surprised by its contents. He travels to the prison to interview the man and things turn bad from there. That letter has started a path of murder and destruction to the people around it.

Worth a read if you enjoy this type of book.
