For the faithful--I shot Reloder 16 today under Barnes 168 TSX, WLRM primer, Rem brass. Singles, to get an idea of velocity and observe for "pressure signs". COAL 2.825". Remington 700, 24" barrel. 84* here at 400 feet above sea level.
62.0 g, 3022 fps
63.0 g, 3080 fps
64.0 g, 3130 fps
64.5 g, 3150 fps
Remington factory ammo produces occasional shiny/smeared case heads on extraction and tight bolt lift in my gun. I observed shiny/smeared case head but no bolt lift issues at 64.0 and 64.5 grains. I had one loaded at 65.0 grains but left it in the box--it grew 0.01 to 2.835 after seating the bullet, and prior velocity said I'm done. Primers were no flatter than usual, which is usually pretty flat.
A 165-168 gr lead core bullet of more modest length might sing a little more, but it's a start.
