Helping a friend load for 160/162's in his 7 Mag. We continue to see somewhat surprisingly low velocities using Re-22 and IMR7828 (albeit sub-max loads). A look at QuickLoad (and the Hodgdon website) suggest taking a look at IMR4451. Anyone tried it in the 7RM?

What is your RL 22 load? I found 3000 fps and accuracy with 65.5-66.5 grains. Worked up of course checking the chrono.

I've not tried IMR4451, but I've have used R22 and IMR7828. Here's what I'd do, with a 160 grain bullet and R22 or IMR7828 I'd add powder until I got 3000fps+ Then I'd fine tune for accuracy.

I haven't used 4451, but I do use IMR4350 which is 4451's neighbor on the burn chart. I get great accuracy and over 3200 FPS with 140 grainers. Accuracy with 160s is excellent, though I do not have chrono numbers.

66.0grs of Reloader-22 has worked really well with 160gr bullets in every 7mag I've loaded for.Velocities ran between 3000-3100fps depending on the rifle.

What are your velocity numbers with loads already tried with RL-22 and IMR 7828?

You didn’t ask, but heck, I’m using 69.0 grains with a 162 ELDX for close to 3100 FPS and sub-MOA accuracy.

I have had great luck in my Model 70 7mmRM with Accurate MAGPRO.

4451 has good velocity but I haven't been really impressed by any of the Enduron Powders that I have tried TBH.

I like IMR 4350 with 140’s, I have Reloader 22, I need to try it. It’s hard get away from 4350, it works so well.
