Quoting a recent article on house hold income

District of Columbia: $110,614
The median household in D.C. rakes in a yearly income of $110,614, the highest in the country.....

From my perspective, this is from all the taxes and fees we pay the federal government. For Washington DC to have the highest per household income is flat wrong.

well, yes. but things have been a bit wrong for ages, and nobody has bothered to say a word.

what we've got is an empire fighting to maintain it's dominance in a post-modern era.

given that, what's oh so wrong with working inside the beltway?

beltway bandits have been with us for a spell.

just connect the dots and pay your taxes.

That’s not a great amount in DC.
Costs a lot to live there.
Not supporting politicians..
Just saying that number by itself means little.

I really expected it to be more. A construction worker in the South can make that much if he shows up on the job.

Wow, just looked it up and median household income here is just over 44K with 17.5 % living below poverty level.

Mesa, Arizona The median household income is $48,259.

Glad I'm higher than that amount. I don't know how people get by.

That's not really news.... It's been that way for quite some time. The main employer is the federal government and tons of those high paying federal jobs are in D.C.. I recall reading something last year about some of those ritzy D.C. suburbs.

Unless its changed from when I grew up in Northern Va...

That figure has to be skewed...

If the median average in the District is $110K a year....
you consider how much of the District is low income welfare collecting ghetto crowd types
( translate that as Ghetto Afro.. and I am sure a lot of hispanic now, which wasn't there back
in my days).. then the people with money in the District are making REAL Big Bucks.

As a debt collector I can tell you there are a whole lot of people living inside the beltway (primarily minorities I suspect) that don't make 1/10th of that. DC has got to have one of the greatest disparities between the haves and have not's in the entire country.

The chances they come, and the chances they go.
But the time. You don't get that back.

Yup. Lots of ex congress critters turned lobbyist making millions a year.

It's incredible the corruption and graft that is our federal government, they don't even try to hide it any more. Something is really wrong with a system where government workers and lobbyists are making so much more money than those in the private sector. Government always has been a cost center which produces nothing, those producing things and creating wealth should always be more highly compensated than those in government.

I was born in D.C. and lived there when I was a child. You couldn't get me back there on a bet now.

That is the minimum annual income needed to live in the D.C. area.

In Alaska (where costs are high!):

Its personal per capita income is $33,568 (2003), the twelfth-highest in the country. Its median household income is $69,825 (2014), ranked second in the country, and its median family income is $82,870 (2014), the fifth-highest in the country.

You confuse median with mean.

Just like you confuse the traditional Mecca of marijuana in Oregon (your local) with Portland.
