Cool!!

I've set my two ocean rods (used from a boat) up with 65 lb braid and run 30-lb leaders, so not exactly light tackle. With bottomfish, once you start to bring them up they are subject to "barotrauma"- at least the ones with swim bladders- and don't put up a ton of resistance once you get them towards the surface. The heavy line is because snags are common, and, you never know WTF you might hook out there! Could catch a 48" halibut, or who knows.

I set up my surf perch rod with 20 lb braid and use 10-lb mono leader so obviously hardly light tackle there either. Which is funny, because I love light tackle. The vast majority of the fish I've caught in my life have been on 4-lb test. I might rethink that rig; the rod (9'6" Okuma SST) casts beautifully and has a great action for the perch, so perhaps just another reel set up with something like 6-lb mono. The 20-lb braid is ideal for casting for rockfish from the boat. I had it out in Newport Bay (Yaquina Bay technically) fishing near the north jetty and it was perfect so I don't want to lose that utility. Again, very possible to hook a LARGE, toothy fish like a big ling cod or "whatever" so the 20-lb braid is nice there.

Basically, fishing the salt has completely $crambled my gear and it's an ongoing thing as I try to figure out what's best. smile

Hit the coast. Hiked a few miles. Caught a juvenile surf perch about 5" long and a sand dab. wearing waders out in big surf is a decent workout just tryin' not to drown. smile

6.5 mile coastal hike. Hey, it's where the bugs right now, aren't. Cool loop my wife figured out. I could see doing an overnighter there by the lake about 3 miles in. Surf perch bite was hot. Caught us dinner and then some, including my biggest to date by far @ 14".

These things are seriously tasty! Firm, flaky meat, perfect for tacos...... I think they've hooked me. Very fun, VERY engaging fishing; it amounts to fishing a drift....... standing in the teeth of the Pacific! Today the surf was mild and the drift was a slow left- right. Goal was to keep my shorts dry. I failed completely. Incipient hypothermia chased me out after a couple hours. That is one cold [bleep] ocean and I had mission critical body parts starting to glitch on me. smile

Hill sprints: 30min

LW overall weight workout...

FWIW: Since I started doing the hill sprints two weeks ago, the 3 year sciatica and surface thigh numbness have disappeared. Can't say 100% that is the reason, but I'll take it.

You back home?

Went solo on the ocean in my little boat yesterday. Had whales rolling less than 50' away. Caught some nice fish. Lost a huge ling right at the boat. Barfed twice.

^^^^^^ wow ^^^^^

Hiked 8 miles near the coast.. Wet a line briefly on the way out to see if there was any surf perch bite but the surf was minimal and the tide, while incoming, was way out.... just no churn happening.... no perch for ME! smile

It was downright verdant today. We were, I guess, about 5 miles inland here. Cool light. smile

Cyn had 20 lbs in her pack; she's a month away from her 100-miler in the Sierras, so she's workin' it. I just had whatever a Glock 22 weighs. Well, plus an IPA belly.

got a nice 4 mile recovery hike in yesterday with Tiny Elvis, legs are still a wee bit sore laugh

sounds like she’ll be ready!
I’m lining up a trip with a buddy (he’s from So Cal) to do the Sierra High Route- similar to the JMT route, but most of it off trail- has been on my bucket list for several years now

Interesting. When I combine shooting and a workout it's hiking and long range shooting.

Quick question. Anybody experience sore lumps on the arches of your feet? The foot I had PF in currently has two such. It's just a pain issue; not like PF where the tissues simply can't transmit the power. But it's still annoying. Anyone?
