My Marlin 39M .22LR and Marlin 1894C in .357 are now my favorite rifles for plinking and informal target shooting. My 1894C also serves as my home and RV defense carbine.

You have a dandy pair Pistolero49. The configurations and chamberings are great matches. I do not have any of the short carbines with straight stocks like that. I think the .357 mag is a great match for it. I use to have an 1894 Cowboy short barrel in .45 colt, but sold it. The only straight stock I have is the first year production .444 Marlin with Monte Carlo stock and 24" barrel. All others are pistol grip including my original Model 39 (predecessor to the 39a).

Small critters, plinking, to defense, those have it covered well. What's nice is both operate the same so when you grab them it's a natural feel and movement.

Very nice pair. I have the 39M also. A fantastic rifle. But settled on the 30TK for its running mate instead of holding out for the 1894c. Still a nice plinker, but only four round magazine. And no walnut.

DollarShort, That 30TK is a good handy field carry rifle and great truck gun. It is a great mate for your 39M.

Don’t get me wrong Pistolero. I love the 30TK. I think the 60’s model Texan I had before had a better look. But I bought this one for it’s configuration, it’s utility, it’s packability, and speed into action. In a 30-30, it was mostly just what I was looking for. Like you said, a great field rifle, in a great field cartridge.
And I’d love an 1894C for a lot of the same reasons. It kind of combines the classic good looks of the old Texan with the slick handling of the TK, only better on both counts. And 10 shots to boot. Surely if I had an RV to defend, it’d be a must have. And I’m partial to the 38/357 combo too. Fantastic fun gun.
