How much would it cost to have an M700 bolt opened from 223 to 308? Open it, re cut the extractor groove and install a new extractor of the correct size. And who would do it? Just mail off the bolt alone.

Just mail off the bolt alone. Buy the proper PT&G bolt and pimp the old bolt... Timing will be taken care of (or should be) and the cost will be minimal.

Send it to Gre-Tan, Greg Tannel. He specializes in this. But he will likely do either a Sako or M-16 extractor, not a Remington.

Don’t go with a Sako extractor. Remington tested their rifles with as designed. NO ONE has pressure tested the modifications some will do to the bolts.
Sell your bolt and buy a bolt. You can buy Remington bolts several places.
I prefer classic.

Well, I had been messaging DocEd and ended up saying I'd just be better of to buy a Ruger Precision Rifle. Then I looked at one, freaking butt ugly.
I have AR's, and synthetic stocked rifles and while they look very functional aesthetically they do nothing for me. They are in fact plain looking to ugly. I want this one to be aesthetically appealing. Wood, no magazines sticking out.
I'm tired of ugly rifles.
New bolt and blueprint action About $375
Pac-Nor medium palma 24" with Pac-Nut About $500
Shocky's wood laminate stock with bedding block About $300- $350
Jard Model V Rifle 14oz $130
Remington bottom metal $160
$1400-$1500
That's only $200-$300 more. Better to get what I want than too look at what I don't want.

I couldn't agree more. Composite stainless rifles can be "pretty" but nice wood and a deep blue could get them to "beautiful". Generally the more tactical they are the uglier.

Well the action is blued and the barrel will be stainless. I wonder if Cerakote SOCOM Blue would serve the purpose. I've heard they can make that a satin blue.

If you can, check out a mid-60's Sako L579 Forester in 308 - deep blue gloss, beautiful wood, great trigger, dead nuts accurate, as good or better than any action out there. And it won't break the bank. They're getting hard to find in 308, a lot of 243's out there.
Cerakote does NOT look like good gloss bluing.
