Just curious - what is a ‘finger groove carbine’?

I’m reasonably familiar with the Ruger 44 carbines (actually own one) but have never heard this term

The Finger Groove Carbine has a select walnut stock that doesn't have a barrel band out front and the forearm is wider with a groove on each side.
