I need to get a battery for my step fathers 16’ mod V Jon. Battery will only power accessory lights, depth finder and a 40 tiller trolling motor. Mostly bass fishing so a fair amount of trolling motor use. If I have to cover water I have a 9.9 outboard for that. Curious if buying a AGM battery is worth it’s premium and what amp hours are appropriate to target for my use? Should I just get a 100AH cheapo at Walmart or target something else?

This looks like a value for a AGM battery with 92 AH and a 18 month warranty?

I would have to buy a damn Sam’s Club membership ($45) to purchase it.

Look for a battery dealer near ya. There is one near me that sells Blem batterys, That might have a scrape or even be off color but they are great and a lot cheeper than new. Oh yea they might not have the stickers on the sides.

Wood: When I was replacing camper batteries I had a very informative discussion with a technician at Trojan Batteries. He told me the only 2 reasons to choose an AGM battery was for accessibility (cannot add distilled water) or severe usage (off roading). Otherwise the flooded lead acid batteries were superior for more amp hours and longer life. This of course assumes not discharging the battery below 50% capacity and charging the battery no less than every three months. During the off season my marine batteries are hooked up to a small solar panel because of the remote location.

I recently bought this Trojan at my local Sportsmans Warehouse. It's a beast. I had it out on Lake Mead intermittently pushing around my 15' john boat with a 55# thrust Minn Kota and the fish finder. When I got home and put the battery gauge on it it was still at 95%. It's heavier than the Walmart/Sam's Club Marine/RV batteries and I expect it to last longer.

I have two of these in one boat.

And three of these in the all electric boat. I have never had any problems with the wal mart batteries.
