i got a leupold vx-3 2.5-8 on my glenfield model 30 sitting in cheap weaver snap overs and a weaver 1 piece aluminum base. sits nice and low with plenty of eye relief

A Leupold 1-4, 1.5-5 or even 2-7x32 in a Warne base and Weaver low ring will be the lowest setup you can get and won't ruin the balance of a handy Marlin levergun.

I like Dednutz on a lever. Lightweight and well made. I have one on a Browning BLR. I'd bet a Dednutz would work great on a Marlin 336 as well.

A picatinny rail and then any small low-mount, low-power scope.

Look at the photo from dingo on the previous page. The Burris (Redfield style) rings and base leave no room for eyr relief adjustment. It is either correct ot it is not. No question as to quality. I have that base and ring set up, made by Leupold that came on a 336. I stripped it off and installed an aluminum short rail and Burris rings for a Weaver style rail. Much lighter and it adjusts for ER. The original rings from Weaver work well, return to zero as well as others, and they are strong. They are a little sub par on appearance and they are hard to get the crosshairs perfectly level. It sometimes takes me two or three tries at leveling, but I like them.

Same here, it's hard to get lower than a Weaver rail, and low Weaver rings. I've got a Leupold M8-4x on my 336, and it works really well.

Yep, Weaver base and rings. Easy to get very low with that.

I have shown this in the 336 forum before, but thought I'd post it again since it has been a while. The first time I saw it, 348srfun had done this to his Marlin 336 and I had to have one on mine. It is the best scope mount set up I have found for my Marlin 336. It's a cut off Weaver base, low mount scope rings and with a receiver sight mounted at the rear. Best of both Worlds.

I use either Weaver, or Leupold and EGW Weaver style bases. I bought a bunch of Warne rings at Cabela's on a give away close out price several years ago. I use the Warnes but I do not like the floating cross bar because it is troublesome to mount. I prefer Burris or Leupold rings for the Weaver base.

I just mounted a Leupold 2-7x33 that I picked up used here off of the Campfire Classifieds.

The base is a Leupold Rifleman for the 336 and the rings are also Leupold Rifleman 1" lows.

It has plenty of clearance off the rear iron sight and enough in the back to adjust the magnification, but is still plenty low. I'm really pleased how it turned out.

I'll post some pics as soon as I get them sized correctly.

Check out a Ranger Point Precisions base with built in backup sight.

I use Talley's on mine... the 2 piece bases, screw lock rings, and their receiver sight that mounts to the rear base when you don't feel like using a scope. receiver sight just slides on the rear base and gives you a long ass arc for Iron sights If I could just find a decent patch box to mount in the stock to put them in.
