I recently bought a Winchester 1897 16 ga. made in 1912. It is 28" cyl choke barrel. The barrel (takedown model) fits tight to the receiver but the mag tube does not seem to go deep enough into the receiver to properly engage the locking threads. As a result, the mag tube will spin easily when gun is assembled. It appears that the mag tube is a 12 ga. with a liner tube which protrudes slightly (unevenly). I am hesitant to fool with it and would rather have this corrected professionally. Anyone know of a good Winchester 'smith around Pittsburgh?

I can personally attest to this man's ability as a craftsman. Mike has done some exceptional work for me over the years and he knows Winchesters.

I sure could go for some $2.50/gal gas and a mean tweet!

Any shotgun smith that can tear apart a Krieghoff and putt it back together again correctly is at the top of his craft. He can do Winchester shotguns in his sleep.

The man's a genius when it comes to shotguns. He can style a pretty fine stock also.

While we are on Shotgun Smiths. For you Southern Boys here is another. Don't be in a hurry, but Larry is another one of the few the shooters trust completely.

I agree completely. Along with other things, he has restocked my K-80 and completely re-done a model 12 Pigeon grade trap. His checkering work is second to none. Last time I was there, he was engraving a Ruger hand gun... can't remember what it was, I was too engrossed in the engraving.
