There were pics posted here years ago of a custom hanger attached to the receiver and the fore end attached to the hanger, completely free floating the barrel. Does anyone remember this, or have any of you Savage 99 experts done this?

Seems to me it was something on the lines of what’s been done with Ruger single shots.

Why does that make me wince when you say it Roy...? Yup, it was me alright, might as well own up to it. Once it's on the internet..., well, ya know. Here you go. This is #3 of 4 that I've done so far. The first was on a "C" clip action, and despite the learning curve it was easier than the close tolerances on the rotary actions. (hint: drilling the front of the receiver is easier with the barrel removed..) https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/galleries/12985031#Post12985031

JeffG, probably been hashed but what accuracy results did you find?

JeffG, probably been hashed but what accuracy results did you find? My only substantial before and after accuracy testing was on the first rifle a 99C x 284. Before; from the bench with a bag under the receiver offered me 1.25-1.5 MOA with some just under, and some just over. After; the best loads would go into more consistent 1.25" groups, with several down to 1" at 100 yds statistical bench result: the hanger bracket didn't make enough difference to be worth the work. field result: I believe the variety of field holds that crank differently on the forearm can change the P.O.I by a couple inches. This bracket eliminates the field-hold variable entirely, (worth the work in my hunting rifles) Here's a sight-in target with one of the hanger-99s (note: two different 3-shot loads on the 100yd target).
