Stith master mount. I had to ask the same question the first time I saw one.

Does look like a Stith Master Mount. The only other mount I know that looks like that is the Bausch and Lomb mount. Both go back to the 50s, if not late 40s.

I think Kollmorgen made those scopes for Stith, I believe the same as the Bear Cub, before they came out with the adjustable Bear Cub.

The Kollmorgen scopes and the Stith scopes made by Kollmorgen have 26mm/1.0236" diameter tubes.

Redfield got into the rifle scope business by buying Kollmorgen's rifle scope business. The first Redfield scopes were nearly the same as the the 2.75x, 4x, and 6x Kollmorgans, except Redfield opted to make their scopes with 1" diameter tubes.

Weaver made some 4x scopes for Stith with 1" tubes and a straight objective that look like K2.5 or K3 Weavers.

Does the front mount just set on the barrel, no D&T?

The scope does not look to have much eye releaf adjustment.

No, the front base doesn't attach to the barrel. The Stith Master Mount was designed to be installed via the factory d&t holes on the front and rear of the receivers of lever safety 99s that came with six holes d&t from the factory for mounting receiver sights or scope mounts, four on top and two on the tang. The Master Mount had windage and elevation adjustments in the bases and was only intended for use with scopes that didn't have internal adjustments, the so called "straight tube scopes", like those made by B&L (1"), Kollmorgen (1.026"/26mm), and Lyman (7/8").

The Stith Do It Yourself mount is the earlier style that mounts via the rear sight dovetail and the two factory d&t holes on the Savage 1899/99 tangs.

I have several NIB sets of them for Remingtons, Savages, and Winchesters, but I don't think that they are nearly as well designed as the comparable B&L bases. I think that they fall into the category of "cool vintage stuff".

Kollmorgan Optics made their reputation in the submarine parascope market and their scopes have pretty optics for the time.
