After measuring several cases I found the case heads to be .504". What size should the reamer be in this area?

?????
What's the case? Besides, the reamer size vs. case head is irrelevant. Reamer needs to match the cartridge case, within very thin limits..

The cases started out a 7 Rem Mag cases. The belts were turned off and a new extractor groove turned. From what you posted I should have the reamer ground to about .5045". Is that correct?

I have seen this a few times with the 6.5-06. The story told to me by the boys at Clymer was that the body of the reamer was made to the military specs for the M1 Garand M2 round (WW2 30-06) and the neck re-ground to a 6.5 with corresponding throat and pilot.
I dislike this myself, but I have to admit is functional. Case life is going to be shortened if you use that kind of reamer and I would think accuracy could not be helped by it, but I have seen a friends rifle in 6.5-06 chambered with such a reamer, and it does shoot 1/2MOA, so perhaps the swelling case is not going to harm accuracy per-se.
Is your reamer made by Clymer? What cartridge is it made for?
Tell us some details.

I don't have a reamer yet. Before I order it I need to know what its dimensions need to be. The case is going to be a 6.5 with a.350" long neck. The shoulder is 40* and.479" diameter. I suppose it will hold about 80 grains of water.

Send whom ever is making the reamer one of cases and have them make you the reamer to match your case. They know more about how to do it then you can possible be able to tell them.

I would want the reamer to be two or three thousandths larger in diameter than the solid head of the largest piece of brass. GD

One said .003" the other said .002" - .003" over. I didn't think of calling until I read your post. Thanks. You are right.

Over looked the wildcat part.
