Picked one of these up last week to replace the older, twist-lock SLIK 500 model I've had for years. This one is 1.2 oz's lighter as well as being easier to use given the snap-lock legs. These fall under the "if it's good they'll quit making it" category, and are therefore discontinued. I believe Focus Camera has 5 left in stock. 1lb 5.2 oz's on my scale... "just right" for a smaller scope used seated. https://www.focuscamera.com/slik-500g-7-tripod.html-OR- https://www.ebay.com/itm/SLIK-500G-...DX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Thanks for the heads up. Just picked one up. For the price and weight figure you can't go wrong. Perfect for the day pack. Thanks again.

Brad, is it possible to remove the head and swap it for a different one?

LB, no it's not removable, but it's a simple matter to get a QR adapter... this should be the right sized one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...rbACh0eAAJoEAQYAiABEgJfxfD_BwE&smp=y

Thanks. I have QR plates and adapters but I am concerned that the 3 way head will flex. Lots of the cheaper, lighter ones are not very strong or stable.

I have never seen a tripod that didn't allow the head to not be replaced....
Are you sure the head is not replaceable Brad? You posted a picture of the QR plate for an optic, not what I think LB was asking about?

All my Slik tripods have removable heads..... I was referring to the plate which threads to the optics... you can remove it, but there's nothing made that will fit it. It's a one-trick pony. If however, you are talking about the entire upper assembly, which includes the handle, yes that can be removed/replaced. Obviously we're talking about two different things and I likely misunderstood the original question.

Oh it's all good Brad - I was confused as well I guess. Never seen a plastic all molded tripod head. Grin...

Took a pic for you to get a better idea... indeed, the 500G-7 is plastic and light aluminum construction, which of course is where the weight savings comes from. The SLIK Sprint Pro EZ w/ pan head on the left weigh's 1lb 6.4 oz's more!

Thanks for posting the info Brad. Too bad, it looks like I'm a bit late to the party though... I've been starting to cuss my twist lock legs the last couple years and I'll be on the lookout for one of these.

I hate twist lock legs too, impossible to use if your hands are cold or wet.

Hey Brad, got mine today and it is just what the Dr. ordered, 1/3 the weight of my present unit and slicker than buttered slugs. I have a bino adaptor enroute and will be able to switch optics and tripods at will or use both at the same time. Thanks for the tip.
PS. if anyone missed out I think they still have some on Amazon.
