When you are a lobbyist for a foreign government, you have to register as such. That way, people know what your bias is. She and her boss never did. That's against the law.

Why would Russians be interested in guns or gun rights?
Russian makers would probably like to sell in the American market, either ammo or firearms. And Russia is, ostensibly, a democracy (currently in name only). There's still a chance for a robust right to keep and bear arms, a robust civil society and democracy in that country. Putin won't run Russia forever. Maybe someday the country will get lucky.
Never mind that the actual cash flows associated with Soviet sources or oligarchs is apparently only about $2,500 last time I checked.
