Friends:
Looking to mount a FX scope on my .375 Alaskan - one of the early ones.
I have a 1-4x shotgun scope on there now, but want to replace it with fixed glass.
This is for the once-in-a-lifetime Alaska hunt, and I want to minimize the chance of equipment failure.
Besides both Phil Shoemaker and MD like low powered fixed glass on their boomers (my word)
My three choices are:
2 1/2x FX II (this is the lightweight one) 3x Fx-2 (this is the one with the straight objective lens reminiscent of the old "Alaskan" scopes. 4x FX-II
All of these would work beautifully, no doubt, but of these three which would you pick as the most optimum?
Please don't recommend something else. I'm a 40 plus Leupold guy, approaching curmudgeon status, and am set in my ways.
If it makes any difference, I'll be after big brown bears on the Lower Alaskan peninsula, or Moose near Eagle in Eastern Alaska. Don't expect the shots to be more than 200 yards, probably within 100.
Thanks in advance!!!

they will all work , but I favor the 3x as a good compromise
I have used an old K3 weaver on a variety of guns over the years and it is a very fast sight.......

Either the 3x or 4x.
They have a nicer, more open "eyebox" than the 2.5x. It makes them incredibly easy to use.

I have the 2.5x on a Ruger African 9.3x62 and it works great, but if I didn't have it I would probably buy the 3x. RJ

I've not used the 3x. Between the 2.5 and 4 I like the 4x.
Since you requested no one recommend anything else, I won't recommend the Nightforce NX8 1-8, but if you hadn't said not to recommend something else I would recommend the NX8 1-8.

I was going to say "FX Nightforce", until I read the rest of your post. Hope it works out for you.
At least take a spare already set up and sighted in, or one of the peeps that clamp to the dovetail. Getting it done with irons after a scope flopped would make a great story.
What fresh Hell is this?

I understand Phil Shoemaker has been very happy with the little 2.5X Leupolds for many years. I can tell you that both the 3X and the 4X have lots of eye box from using them myself. Both my 4X scopes, an older M8 and a new FXII, have both hit the ground so hard I was sure they were shattered inside. To my surprise, neither has ever lost it's zero. I have read that the 3X was designed and is built as a dangerous game scope. Don't see how you can go wrong with any of the above. E
