Early in season is hot here, so bears gotta have em a waterhole to cool off in every day. Just like clockwork, find a 3-4' round pool in the mountains and there'll be bears hitting it every day. It's fun just to sit and watch em. Don't generally shoot any.

I happen to have an un used bear tag that went un filled this past spring.

The chokecherry crop looks pretty good right now.

Our season opens September 15th. Hopefully have an archery bull elk on the ground by then.....

What about hound dogging? That's where my passion lies. Summer pursuit season is currently in full swing and the fall hunts open August 18th. Ain't nothing like the chorus of hounds barking treed on a bruin after a long pursuit!

Bear season starts Sept 1 with bait setting up on August 17. Hunting is nearly exclusively over bait as the cover is so thick. If one can see 20 yards then they are in too open of an area and will see small bears, if any, during shooting hours.

The most productive days are the first two weeks before grouse and archery deer opens up with close to 90% of the harvest then. Bears tend to go nocturnal once people hit the woods in numbers. This is also the hottest part of the season with temps often in the 80s so one needs to get the meat cooled down quickly. If one has access to a large amount of undisturbed land the last two weeks of the season can be good for the largest bears- a buddy took all three of his >400# bears in this period and took his 600# bear on the last weekend.

I haven't shot a bear in a few years, I have too much fun watching them and the other animals at the pit. I also need to time it better so I have room in the freezer as I don't have space to add anothe unles it goes in my reloading room.

Maine in early Sept. with rifle ( bows allowed). Baited, but not easy. Success at this camp runs about 40% for kills in a good year and if weather co-operates, about 80-90% sightings.

Planning on a spot and stalk hunt in September. Son wants one for the freezer so we will give it a go. I personally don't like handling a bear carcass, but you do what you have to!

I've got a Michigan tag that starts September 25. Baiting starts August 10, but last year I didn't start till August 25. I look forward to this a lot more than deer season.

Since I didn't draw an elk or deer permit here in NM this year, I'm thinking that I might go after a bear. Tags are OTC here in our unit, and the second season runs for a little over two months (9/25-11/30). I can start hunting 20 miles or so from the house.

Definitely will wait until the weather cools down, though. smile

Got a rifle tag and might buy a muzzleloader tag as well. Basically a community service killing them and I like to do my part.
