LOL. "Ways to help the homeless" "Need more resources". When do you think they it will click that "helping" the homeless increases the homeless population?

A real good public flogging, would help the mayor solve the problem. I recommend an ugly stick fishing pole to make the hide stand up and take notice.

Whenever anyone complains about cops "profiling" I ask what the dang problem is with trying to focus investigative resources on likely culprits. I don't give a crap if it's unfair...so is having to deal with criminals.
Eliminate qualified immunity and you'll eliminate cops who act like they are above the law.

At the end, the reporter says, "That independent police review, by the way, will take several months..."
Which is nothing more than an excuse to do nothing for several months - nothing, that is, but paying the reviewers to sit in a room, dreaming up recommendations that anyone with a brain could produce in a week.
Of course, in several months, no one will remember this news story, and the problem will just go on, and on, and on, until the next outrage over homelessness, and next "independent review".
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing -- Edmund Burke

Just because a man is riding a bike at night without a headlight doesn’t mean he’s homeless. This is a myth perpetuated by the internet.

Those with initiative are accross the river in Washington. You can pick up bottles out of the trash in Washington, then peddle accross the bridge on I5 to Portland and sell them for the deposit. It's a effin show in the morning watching a guy trying to peddle a bicycle over the bridge with somewhere between 4 and 6 blg sacks of bottles tied on.
It goes down hill from there.
I'm here to increase my social credit score and rub elbows with some of the highest rollers on the internet.

Saw a guy in downtown Denver wrassling a 10 foot tree to the ground 2 weeks ago. Someone yelled at him to stop and he did. Strange sheit.

We have a bunch of Seattle area folks working at the on-shore processor here and they've pretty much said that Seattle is also a homeless cesspool and the police are forbidden from cleaning it up.

Nothing is finer than the open hand and the generous heart that's prompt free and unselfish giving. But modern social science knows, also, that ill directed charity is often directly responsible for encouragement of pauperism and mendicancy. The best service we can do for the needy and the unfortunate is to help them in such manner that their self respect, their ability to help themselves, shall not be injured but augmented. Nobody is necessarily out merely because he is down. But, being down, nobody gets up again without honest effort of his own. The best help that benevolence and philanthropy can give is that which induces everybody to help himself. Calvin Coolidge

In the Bible's book of Acts, the disciples set up sort of Christian communes where everyone shared everything. I get the impression that they did it on their own since Jesus was no longer with them. It didn't work any better than communes today. They had their share of grifters, there for what they could get without working for it. It prompted Paul to make his well known statement that those who won't work won't eat.

Enabling does not work. Time for a new tactic. Just stop right there, mister. You may be correct, but tough love doesn't play well on TV, social media, or liberal parties. You must be able to loudly proclaim how much you care and prove it by funneling other people's money to your noble cause.

The Portland City Council and the mayor continue to pursue policies that make Portland an attractive destination for the homeless. Homeless people may have problems, but they know enough to go where life will be easy for them. As long as the city continues on that path, things will just keep getting worse.

Ever see those lists on “best places to live” and “best places to retire”? Well, thank goodness for places like Seattle, Portland and San Francisco. Although I haven’t seen a formal list, they appear to rank among the best places for homeless people, and they are excellent resources for impecunious people looking for referrals on places to live. They offer decent climates, “legal” pot, free land, and hands-off law enforcement, and the directions are simple (head west until you can’t go any farther). (They also are great places for people with immigration problems, so they should make that list as well.)

Can we just shoot them? You know, thinning out the herd a little. Gas is more efficient. Plus the collateral damage it causes on non-target vermin will be beneficial too since most of them (registered democraps) are also part of the problem.

Never mind...it's Portland. There is a lot of truth to this . Calgary had an old decrepit drop in center without much capacity. To their credit, the do-gooders raised a lot of money and built a state of the art drop inn center. Well the word got out and next thing you knew, bums from all over Canada. The DI is over capacity, we have the Mustard Seed, Inn from the Cold, the Dream Center, CUPS and more. We still have homeless camping in the parks, under bridges etc.. When I have dealt with the homeless panhandling from vehicles in public, it is evident that a high percentage have untreated or poorly treated mental illness and/or drug or alcohol addictions. The campers/rough sleepers will not go to shelters, "I get sick in the shelter", "Too many rules.". I have suggested to some their hop the rails to Vancouver, the Climate is milder.

Had a hard time getting past the eyebrows on the dude reporting from the street. Yeeeeeesh... Your comment caused me to watch the video. I envisioned an older man with with great big bushy out of control eyebrows. Not an older woman with squirrel tails glued to her forehead. She really needs a makeover.
