BigDusty, Are you referring to Lightfoot's scope mount? If so, PM Lightfoot here on this site. He is a very nice person. He makes the mounts. I've used them. They are good, no drill mounts. You will, however, need to drift the rear sight out of its dovetail to install the Lightfoot mount.

Dusty find your way to the Savage collectors section of the 24 Hour Campfire and post there, he reads there for sure.

Yes, the Lightfoot is the one I am interested in, am in process of purchasing a very nice 99 in 300 Savage, looks to be about circa 1950, unaltered in any way, manufactured in Chicopee Falls. My eyes are not so good, looking forward to hunting with it this fall. Thanks for the info, will see if I can navigate the Savage page.

Surely in 1950 they tapped em? In 1950 there were two models offered. The 99R, which was drilled and tapped. And the 99EG, which wasn't factory drilled until 1954'ish.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com
