Stirring the pot this AM? Shame on you.
I just received a phone call from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She believes the Creed is just a flash in the pan and will soon be replaced by the 6.5x257, due to the better design of the parent 257 case.
Take it to the bank, get in on the bottom—thank me later!

Huh, I'd have thought she'd have predicted the 7x57 will make a come back.

Stirring the pot this AM? Shame on you. Not on purpose of course...... Actually it's entertainment value is to compare the early prognosticators of the Crapmore to the current 6.5 PRC.

Ballistics about indistinguishable from the .260 Rem. Yes, with a 28" long barrel. What I can do with a 22" barrel 260 it takes a 28" Creed to match it. Pressure for pressure the 260 kicks it's butt. You can also load long VLD's in the 260 no problem. I think this whole Creed thing is nothing but a monkey see monkey do. This one cracked me up.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

All the posts on those old threads deriding the CM were right! It's a flash in the pan. Gonna fizzle. Any day now. I'll wait.

This is what the 260 Rem can do with one shot with a Barnes 120gr TSX. Many more elk taken with this cartridge years before the CM came out.

So......like......270's don't work anymore? Nope...just a matter of time before it goes the way of it's parent, which has become obsolete in the past few years. Oh...and it's gay.

My 260 Rem takes elk year after year with the Barnes 120gr TSX. The 270 with Barnes 130gr TSX also works fine. So does the 7-08 & the 140gr Barnes TSX, What it is about is a tough deep penetrating bullet properly placed. The 260 with the proper bullet will take any game the 270 will. The 270 is an excellent cartridge, so is the 260 Rem. What I like about the 260 is the light recoil , & it gets the job done. Have taken many elk over the years with the 338Mag, 300Mags, & 7mags.. I just got fed up with the recoil. Since I went to the 6.5 I have never lost an elk or ever recovered a Barnes120gr TSX. . Every one has been a complete pass thru. It works. Those willing to give a 6.5 a try I believe will be pleased. It makes no difference If it is a 260 Rem or 6.5CM.The 260 hold about 1.5grs more powder than the CM. Over my chrono with the Barnes 120gr TSX the 260 ( 22" Bbl for both ) beats the CM by about 60 to 70 fps. No bog deal . Understand the CM was designed to be shorter to better function thru an AR type action. The name Creedmoor is just that . A name designed to sell the round. It has no relationship to a Creedmoor match. It is in reality a 260 short..I use the 260 Rem because I started out years before Rem brought it out with a 6.5x308 wild cat.It was a normal transitions to the Rem 260.

Understand the CM was designed to be shorter to better function thru an AR type action. I believe the creedmoor case is shorter so it can utilize longer bullets, which have a better BC, and still fit in a short action. I doubt it has anything to do with the AR action, since its OAL fits in an AR10 length action, not an AR15 (which would be a grendel). I could be wrong

I have heard that comment before about the 260 not being able to accommodate 140gr bullets. Here is a picture of my Savage 260 magazine with two 260 rounds with Sierra 140gr HPMK bullets seated way out , just barely seated in the case. They would normally be seated deeper. These rounds fit in my 260 magazine easily & don;t even begin to impose on the powder capacity of the case. This has been another fallacy of the 260 & 140gr bullets that seems to just get passed on . The 260 Rem will handle 140gr bullets with no issues. As long as the magazine will accommodate your preferred bullet you can throat it any way you wish. This is what competitive match shooters do. If you have a Rem 700 or Win70 rifle with a box magazine there is even more room. For my self with the advent of the homogeneous copper bullet like the Barnes I see no need for 140gr bullets. . The 6.5 120gr Barnes gives me complete penetration on elk now. What more can the 140gr deliver . If you are a long range competitive shooter the high BC 6.5 bullets would be an advantage but it would have to be extreme long range,. I have my own range on my land which is out to 500yds. I occasionally shoot out there & know my 260 with the 120gr Barnes is very capable at this range. I've shot there many times over the years. It works. In the field I refrain from such extreme long range shots. Always working to keep my shots in a range where I am confident of placing them accurately & ethically.

no Creedmoors here yet at my house. I have two 6.5x284 Norma`s both shoot lights out ,also have two 264 win.mag.s in pre 64 Winchesters I see no reason yet to shoot slower bullets ? I think maybe someday 26 Nosler would be nice to own ?

In the field I refrain from such extreme long range shots. Always working to keep my shots in a range where I am confident of placing them accurately & ethically. I have a real great .260, on a short Rem action. It handles the long bullets, but with really compacted charges. I run 129 Interlocks in it and they are great, out to my 530-yard max range, here at the house. Speaking of Savage, I had a learning moment yesterday. I was talking to a guy at Evolution Gun Works, because I saw a rail listed for a medium action. Unknown to me, Savage made some large, medium and small actions awhile back. Luckily, I found this out, as my old .308 is a medium action, and I was about to pull the trigger on a short rail. It may make it even better for a possible .260 re-barrel.

Those of you shooting factory Hornady 143's, what velocities are you getting out of a 23-24" barrel?

I was excited to chronograph my new 6.5 PRC this weekend. The factory Hornady 143s are going right at 3000 fps. I figure that's fast enough and recoil is about like a 270.

Good stuff ruraldoc. That's impressive for sure. I'm one of those that believes too much velocity can be a negative thing, as I've killed several big bucks well under 100 yards. Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong though.

It's probably a Savage action with a big fat loudenboomer brake since he can't handle the recoil.... Pretty sure I saw him at the range last week. Every cease fire he bragged about his gun but couldn't hit steel very well...

I don`t really like to big of cartridge anymore, lately I have been using my 6 BR and some people shoot that well at 1000 yards too and have done very well too. good luck,Pete53 Makes perfect sense, given what Greg posted.

NOPE ,its a mark 5 Weatherby action,28 inch Brux barrel, and has a ported barrel with a 8-32x56 Nightforce its built for long range hunting, but when I shoot competition I use in a 223 rem.,6 BR,or 6.5-284norma come on up here in the winter we have money shoots 100-500 yards, open to any cartridge any rifle ,location of these money shoots is Princeton,Mn. I`ll just use my 6 BR ,we would enjoy all you guys .we have even had snipers here, national bench champions, state champions in the past its just a lot of fun, heck I will even post my score and yours on here too.

Nice shooting, JG! I hope my Tikka 6.5CM shoots like that, when it gets here. My other 6.5CM was exceptionally easy to load for and shoots very well. I like the cartridge a lot. I'm OK with 2680.
I've seen more well-shot game lost with TSXs than any other premium bullet.

I asked Alpha to please do a run of 6.5 Creedmore brass.
Bob said no way.
I bet Peterson would do it, if they haven't already.
It does crack me up how many guys were worried about that record being set with a Creedmoor.
Aint even in the running.
Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!

no Creedmoors here yet at my house. I have two 6.5x284 Norma`s both shoot lights out ,also have two 264 win.mag.s in pre 64 Winchesters I see no reason yet to shoot slower bullets ? I think maybe someday 26 Nosler would be nice to own ? Yep. JB wrote that he sold his .264 WM, bought the 26 Nosler he was testing. I have a 26 Nos, 6.5-284, Swede and Creed. All with premium barrels, all shoot good. But, I find myself using my 7-08 as a go to WT and hog gun... But, as a Loony, everything is subject to change. DF

I've heard that before on the innanet. So I won't even attempt the feat. I'll use the PRC, instead. It is kinda like a magnum. And EVERYBODY knows you need magnums for elk.

Well I've been enjoying my 260 Creedmoors since they came out back in 1998.
brass availability has never been a problem from day one... even if it don't say 260 on the bottom... more like it says 308 Winchester...

I got my first barrel chambered for 6.5 Creedmoor just a few days ago. So far it is absolutely horrid. I can totally see why so many folks hate it. My Bartlein 6.5 Creedmoor barrel has “only” averaged .478” at 100 yards for 4 five-shot groups with factory Hornady American Gunner Ammo. John

Yea, my Wife took a Bull Elk and a Whitetail with her Creedmoor last fall but we were prepared not to be shocked as she had done the same for years with her other 6.5, which happens to be a 6.5 Swede but with all this weird "Crapmoor" talk we were a little concerned the animals would realize those 140 NP's came out of a case with a different headstamp, I guess not !

I did everything wrong with my Creedmoor adventure and it still shoots pretty well. First off I bought a cheap 700 SPS sporter.. Then I stuck it into a light fibreglass stock by grinding out some bedding to get it to fit. Then I shot factory ammo. In this case Federal 120 gr Trophy Copper. I had boresighted it at home and hit paper at 100 with the first group. The first 2 shots I put through the barrel touched. The third opened it up to .520" Let it cool and then shot two groups back to back at 200 that went 1.06" and .90" The Timney trigger and the 6.5-20 Leupold may have helped. If I rebed it I might be be able to get rid of those fliers....:-) I plan to shoot it at 300 today and see how it holds up. Then swap a 3.5-10 on it for hunting. With a 120 @ 2800 it's a 257 Roberts with a .007 larger bullet diameter. We know the Bob works...........

My uncle was a professional truck driver for 40+ years. He said he loved everything about driving truck except truckers. Said all anybody ever wanted to talk about at the truck stop was what gear they pulled that last hill in. His comment was they all made it up the hill so who cares what gear they were in. Reminds me of some Creedmoor guys whenever a gun conversation comes up.
I think I could love the Creedmoor on a lot of its merits (low recoil, factory rifles twisted properly, accurate/affordable factory ammo, VLDs that fit the case well in a short action, etc.), just not sure I am ready to believe that a 140 @ 2700 = Magic. I am sure I would like it more if it was less popular.

I think the Creedmoor is a great option for a newbie or someone replacing a short action cartridge like the .243. It has certainly earned its stripes but I have no interest in it, because my rifles are centered around the standard action length. I like it, am used to it and do not want to stray from it.
My Cabela's SG in 7x57 is my shortest cartridge but still chambered in a standard action. Because it drives 140's to 2900fps, 120's to 3050fps and 175's to 2650fps, it covers all my needs in the lower 48. I recognize the attribute of the Creedmoor just as I recognized some attributes for some WSM's but have never nor ever, will own one. John

260 Rem or the 6 X55 Swede are both about the same and the Swede is used across the pond for most big game. Both are low on recoil and easy to reload.

It's the Creediots that glorify and worship it's pseudo magical powers to overcome distance, wind and beast in one swat, making it the bestest, highestest bc case on the planet, screw the bullets, THE 6.5 CM case has the Highest BC !!!!

Well I just joined the club. Been toting an old M70 30Gov't06 around the hills for the last 30+ years and thought maybe something under 10# would be nice to pack over hill and dale. Well a Black Friday sale at the local D&B supply took 10% off an already decent 729.99 for a Kimber Hunter in 6.5 CM. $656 was a little too good to pass up so I decided to give the new fangled 6.5 a try. Have not really done much but shoot a couple rounds to see if it went bang or not. Will to do testing and reloading and see what happens. I have until next Oct. to figure it out and always can fall back on the old M70. All I'm really after is a 1/4 mile or less deer killer and maybe and occasional elk (if I could ever draw a decent tag). Be nice to keep 3 under an inch at 100 yds, half that would be outstanding. Time will tell.

Not much hunting anymore, just shooting...........................3,500 yd RF's, 6-30 target scopeson hunting rifles, 1,500 yd, no recoil rifles....................might as well just sit on the front porch & wait for something to show up a mile away & pop it.
MM Except for this thing called windage. Yep, yardage is physics, windage borders on voodoo... Speed with good B.C.'s really helps in the wind. The least time for wind to work on a bullet, the better. I like my 26 Nosler for such as that. And, I do like and use my Swede, Creed and 6.5-284. DF

I have not put a load through mine yet, that it does not like. Creed will kill a WT or a hog about as dead as the old '06. After years of using an '06, I think one will be pleasantly surprised at how accurate random factory ammo will shoot in a low cost, factory Creed rifle. I don't think you can take an '06 off the rack, pick up a few random boxes of factory ammo and expect MOA or better across the board. Now, I can reload sub MOA '06 ammo without much trouble. But, I'm talking factory ammo/factory rifles. Creed wins. I have twice as many '06's than Creeds, 2:1... Like'em all. DF

Mule Deer, Elk, Moose, Coyotes a few other things I'm sure - but not the regulars for most. lol. I like to hand load - half the fun is working up a good round. But, having a factory good factory load to fall back on is always nice. Reloading and testing will give me something to do until next fall. If I can get this CM to shoot like that old 30-06 w/ 52gr of 4064 and 150gr SP's I'll be a happy camper.

Yeah, I’m a reloader and agree.
But head to head, factory guns/factory ammo, put your money on the Creed.
Safe bet.

John, I passed over these posts for a long time. Finally starting reading about the CM. It made a lot of ballistic sense. I bought a Tikka, and was thoroughly impressed with factories and handloads. Now have a Kimber Montana that is very accurate - without any modifications other than a Leupy and Talleys. Add a little R-16 and a 140gr. Acc or a 143 ELD-X and you are good to go.

John,
What are the specs on the AR-10-ish rifle?
I have a LaRue LT-10 in 6.5 Creedmoor and it's scary accurate.

I have a LaRue LT-10 in 6.5 Creedmoor and it's scary accurate. That's built on the G2 pattern. Pretty much an AR-15 that uses the LR308/Sr-25 pattern mags for the .308 sized rounds. 5.56 on the left and 6.5 CM on the right configured the same. 4 Oz of weight difference.

Snake oil clearance sale? Pretty funny when someone attending a State University.... makes comments about “snake oil”. How much were those first couple years of tuition, you know, the classes you already took for free in high school then had to take again (and pay for)? We all place value on different things. I’ve run a couple of John’s WYO-ARs... they’re the most impressive Krunchentickers I’ve ever shot... hands down. Worth the money to me? No way.... but they certainly aren’t “snake oil”.... just too expensive for my taste.

Those are fine Ars. I have handled one in person, while visiting my cousin in Cody. If a guy has the money to spend, and the desire for a truly quality rifle, then they are about as good as it gets for the AR. I am just not a super-fan of the platform. I like my accurate bolt rifles.

I have a few AR-15`s all shoot just fine, I also have a AR-10 custom in 243 win. that`s more accurate than most hunters bolt rifles. those Krunchenticker AR`s look very impressive, my question is does this manufacture put that big long name on every AR they build ? But again nice rifles ! thanks for showing a picture,Pete53

Tuition costs drop exponentially when you know how to read a book and run a calculator. Plus, it sure seems as though for me, and for what I do for a living, it was more than worth it. Is John still selling those bedding blocks that keep scopes from shrinking and growing? Man, those sounded slick....

For me the Berger 130gr VLDs and AR Hybrids are working great so I have not looked elsewhere. I have shot some 130gr TMKs but those are pretty fragile and results even on deer were not great.

This decade...simply enjoys the best bullets, barrels and brass, none of which any previous decade could match.
Hint........................

Hint........................ I agree, this one is superb, but isn't a creedmore and doesn't shoot premium bullets...

Well, my crapmore came to me via a gift from an uncle. He belongs to his local Legion and he won the gun in a raffle. He decided that I should have it. A Ruger American Predator with a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x44, I think sits on it. Not a gun I would have purchased, but he is my uncle and he is a vet. I gladly accepted and got it sighted in. He came down for a visit and we took it out and he was able to fire it a few times. He was a happy camper. I took the rifle out on Veteran's Day in his honor. I took this buck at about 125 yards, one shot and he made it maybe 30 yards. Remington 140 grain corelokt did the job. He was the first person I told and texted him a picture and the details. He now can brag to his buddies at the Legion. This rifle will now be with me or my family for many years to come. I will not let this crapmore go. We took it one step further and had lunch at the local VFW where we hunt as they were serving a turkey dinner. A great day in my book. I was hunting with my my older brother, my oldest son and my nephew. Here is a picture of the deer:

Last year black friday I bought a Savage 12FV cabelas special for $200 bucks after rebate and cabelas discount for getting a credit card. Mounted a vortex 4-16 pst out of the cabelas bargain cave for $499. Hellavu rifle. 1/2 moa all day long. Easy to shoot. Killed several deer with it. Sweet shooter. Is it the be all to end all hell to the no. But I find it easy to load for and easy on the shoulder. Quite a joy to shoot.

Those douche nozzles plaster that logo every where. It's like they are proud of how those AR perform. Damn nice bull and nice AR John. Thanks for sharing. Good info on the bullets you use too. I need to try some of those VLD's. I was at Cabela's the other day and damn near bought some to try in my Creed. Seeing these AR 6.5 creedmoor rifles, makes me want to switch barrels on my AR10 even more... As for now, I'm in the process of trying to wear out my bolt action 6.5 CM barrel: Crapmore? Well, maybe...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I’ve got the Tikka T3X SS 6.5 and a PSA 6.5 CM. Both of them are ridiculously good to me. Easy to shoot well and with Alpha brass and decent bullets they work excellent. I like the Tikka so much I ordered an EDGE fill Sako Classic. May even shorten the barrel, but then again, maybe not. It hasn’t replaced my Mashburn at all, but it’s about the best truck gun I’ve ever used.
