I have had good results with R15 in most bullet weights but am curious about some of the newer powders in the 375. It would be a good thing to have better temperature stability although JB wrote that R15 was improved in this regard. I may be using old lots of it. R17 seems like a good choice and possibly R16, 4977, VV560, VV150 and others close to or slightly faster than the 4350s and possibly denser loading. I have not worked as much with the light bullets but am looking to get 2900+ fps with the Speer 235. I can do this with R15 but not with a lower pressure load.. I think JJ Hack has reported on using the 200 Raptor with good results. Any load information appreciated.

I had really good luck with Big Game. Achieved >2600fps with 300gr tsx, and >2800fps with 270gr tsx.

Check out Hodgdon’s site. It has data for the 235 Speer. The only loads that I see with newer powders are CFE 223.

Yes good info. I might wing it with the R16 as I think it is bulky enough that I can't get into too serious trouble. Probably should just get some newer R15 and go with what I know.

I wonder how TAC would work?

I prefer classic.

RL-17 easily sends 300 gr BBW-#13 solids to 2700 fps in my pre-64 375 H&H, same/same for the 300 gr Partitions, they chrono at a really accurate 2680 fps, don't know what this combo wouldn't handle from small deer to ele, even elk at 400 yards would be cake with the 300 gr NPT's.

I have stayed away from Reloder powders because of the temperature issues, even though they are supposed to be better.

Check the Ramshot website, good for lighter bullets, Big Game is better for the heavier ones.

Will try R16 & 17 but for 300 grain bullets they work just fine at 2,500 fps. The 235s if I can get them over 2,900 fps then they shoot as flat as a 270 which is nice for smaller game.

I see, I do too in longer range smaller game/target cartridges, for example, 300 Win mag and 208 ELD-X's and 160 gr AB's from my 7mm MSM as well as 300 gr Accubonds at 3000 fps in a big 338, I use Retumbo, H-1000 and H-4831 in those.

A 375 H&H and the like are used by me for larger animals at much closer ranges, don't believe I can "hold the difference" in a hunting scenario.

Can not fault your logic at all.

Just as I have moved away from temp insensitive powders towards temperature stable powders, and migrating towards the powders with the anti copper fouling agent.

I have shot the rifling out of the throat of my 1st 375H&H barrel and I am about 3000 rounds into the 2nd barrel. I did this all with several powders, but by far I used IMR 4064 more then anything else.

It's an "old powder" but because it's still made I would ask why I would want to change? Ragged hole groups and good velocity. Personally I will not be using anything "new" just because i see no reason to try them in my 375. They can't make the gun kill better, and they can't be more accurate.

My 2 cents worth

You and gunner500 are the only ones I've heard, shooting out barrels on big boomers. His was a .416 that he had bored to 505 Gibbs. Don't think he's shot that one out, YET... shocked

I really enjoy my 375, I bought it used so do not know how many actually rounds are through the barrel. I know I have shot at least 600 rounds through it since acquiring.

I would love to shoot it enough to necessitate a new barrel.

I use IMR 4064 in my .375 H&H and would never consider changing. Mine shoots tight groups with 235 & 270 Barnes X bullets.

I think 4064 has been improved with anti fouling agents and it was always fairly temperature insensitive. Can't verify this no info on the IMR web site.

Always used RE 15 and it has been superb. Never had any issues and always great speed and accuracy. Varget would prolly be the one that is closest to 15.

Yes no dissatisfaction with R15 at all just curious and have a desire to run 235s at 3000 fps for no good reason, 2900 fps is plenty.
