When it's done it will look like this. 5 shot 9.3X57 mag by Steve Zihn, on Flickr Now when you make the stock you need to allow a bit of extra wood on the bottom, but when it's done you can't see any difference at all, but doing it this way allows you to load 5 rounds with ease. So does widening the magazine at the front shoulder like it should be. This also promotes better feeding.

JES may not want to drill a chrome line bore. But, otherwise, the most cost effective approach is to typically start with a commercial receiver as they are most often already scope ready. In this case the OP stated he wanted an "old Mauser". Lotsa folks like the look of the non-commercial receiver better, more traditional.

I like the look of the thumb cut out on the military versions. After looking around though it seems the Husqvarna 146 has the cut out as well. Is that a commercial or military action? Learning a ton about the different iterations of Mausers over the last couple days. Lot of stuff out there. Excited to see what I have with the barreled action. Should be here next week. Even it you couldn't find it in 9.3x62, you could easily find a brand new one to rebore for around $400. Me, I'd still probavly just sink too much into an old military one that had been already bubba'ed up...but I don't always make the most sense. Mauser Rescue Society Founder, President, and Chairman I don't always shoot Mausers, but when I do...I prefer VZ-24s. jdi do píči
