Fortunately the Ulrich clan of engravers is fairly well documented and I am happy to ride some of those coattails.
Questions do remain and so "the hunt" continues.
Conrad Friedrich was the Marlin engraver believed to be responsible for the Savage Model 1895's.
Loggah has flashed a Marlin or two engraved by Conrad F.
The British (Tue) style was light/fine engraving vs. the German (Ulrich) styles which are more bold. Both are things of beauty regardless.
My data is raw and incomplete. I'll clean it up eventually.

Ain't many engraved 1895's around. Shame.

Ulrich was and still is a common family name in Upstate NY. In my old stomping grounds of Herkimer County which is not very far from Utica, Ulrich was a fairly common family name. We had a place we hunted in Webb Township, Herkimer County called Ulrich swamp, where I shot my first buck many, many years ago. A 197 lb field dressed 8 pointer. Killed with my grandfather's uncle's 1909 serial numbered Model 8 35 Remington. Still have that gun and still hunt it. Will go to my son when I leave or quit hunting which ever comes first. I am the 4th generation owner of that gun, he will be the 5th.

Roe counted nine engraved 1895's in the log books ("...might have missed some...") .

Of the nine, five were done for Stratton and one for A W Savage.

If I remember correctly more than half ended up in the Wes Adams collection and went to auction when he died. Most of those now reside in Conn., including the A. W. Savage rifle. I would think the A.W.Savage, Ulrich engraved rifle, would be near the top of the list of 1895/1899/99 to own.

Conrad F. Ulrich Jr. was the Marlin engraver believed to have done Savage Model 1895's.
More than 30 Ulrichs lie in the family plot at Cedar Hill Cemetary, Hartford, Connecticut.

Gun engraving is somewhat mysterious as to who did what when because most did not or were not allowed to sign their work.
Some styles are more distinctive than others and therefore can point to a particular individual. Others are more similar and difficult or not possible to identify for sure.

This Model 1895 is attributed to Herman Ulrich who also was at Marlin.
