Nice picture High Noon. I agree with your premise.
I thought I posted 2 or 3 of my customs. Several guys make great clones, Borden, Pierce, Stiller, Satterlie, and others.

Tried to find my Satterlie receiver. Maybe tomorrow.

Without knowing what your trying to achieve, e.g. ultralight weight, lightweight sporter, medium weight sporter, long range sporter, SA, LA, Mag, etc..., I’d add Borden Alpine and Kelbly Atlas to your list.

butchlambert1: Very nice rifles!

Of the 'smiths/companies you mentioned, Satterlee would be my choice since I'm a CRF guy.

I'm always thinking about another build, and right now I would be looking at the Bighorn TL3 CRF and the Defiance Gap Hunter in the XM length, Defiance is supposed to be working on a DBM that will fit the XM actions, I have a 6.5 Gap on an XM action and it works very well!

Finally found it. This is one of his stainless models. It is an improved Mauser type receiver with a mod 70 trigger design. Stu Satterlie receiver.

Butch: That action looks quite nice. What are your plans for it? Also, if you don't mind me asking, what did it cost and are his CM actions cheaper than the SS?

Mine is probably at the low end of the spectrum in this group, but it has worked well for me. It is a stainless MRC 99 action with one of their hand lapped barrels (21 inch long, 1 in 12" twist), then put together in a Serengeti Stockworks AA Leopard pattern stock, checkered, bedded, etc by Serengeti (now Kilamanjaro Rifles.) It is a .358 Win and it shoots groups under 1/2 inch often enough that when it doesn't, I know it is my fault. For some reason, I just always wanted a .358.

I also have a MacMillan Edge stock that I bought from Rick for it as the Serengeti stock is just so pretty.

Calif. Hunter: Low end of the spectrum? Maybe the action when compared to a Mausingfield or a Defiance, but the Kilimanjaro stock alone costs more than most full house custom rifles.

I bought it long ago, but think around $1250, which is reasonable if you figure it comes with trigger and bottom metal. Roger Vardy, my walnut stock supplier, wants it and will probably get it.

Data point of one. Only "custom" action I have owned is a Stiller TAC300 Left Hand. Currently has an 1:8" twist .270 Win barrel on it. Like the action. No issues. No drama.

Both of my customs are Borden. 300 WSM Alpine & 280 AI Timberline. Stellar value in every way.
