I ran across a Marlin Davidson Stanless Trapper. It was in my cheap price range so I pick it up tomorrow. Sling, a couple of boxes of ammo and box with papers. Can’t wat to try it out!

That thing is beautiful.... I predict you're gonna love it. I got my first 30-30 16 years ago inherited from an uncle. If I had known that 30-30 lever guns were so neat I'd have purchased one years sooner. It's also a great cartridge to handload and if those iron sights aren't as easy to see as they used to be, you can always put a low mounted Leupold 1-4x 20mm on top of that receiver. Looking forward to your report. Wish mine was in stainless but I'm staying with what I have because I'm honoring my late uncle's wish that I get it and carry it afield.

have fun and do not under estimate the 3030. my savage 99 will shoot better than me and just about any ammo is good in it. try to commit to using it only this season. bet you won't have a reason to wish for something else. !! god bless. !

Picked it up. Guy said it shoots low so I put a taller front sight. I said so let’s see......... I don’t think he thought this through.

If it shoots low with the rear sight all the way down, you need to lower the front sight not raise it.

If it shoots low, raise the rear sight. Jaysus Keerist, this is not rocket surgery

Curious what you paid for the gun. There was one on gun broker a couple weeks ago that sold for over $1900. They only made 501 of those and they don't show up often. Now you just need the straight stock version to go with it!
Keep moving forward!

Sweet gun but you need a shorter front sight not a taller one. The taller front sight exacerbates the problem.

Seldom explained, when using open sights, the rear sight needs to move to where you want the bullet impact to go. If the impact is low, raising the rear sight will elevate the point of impact.
Another example, if it is shooting right of center, the rear sight needs to be moved left, where you want the impact. John
