the Ruger stainless steel GP100 in 4 inch would be good medicine...

all learning is like a funnel:
however, contrary to popular thought, one begins with the the narrow end.
the more you progress, the more it expands into greater discovery--and the less of an audience you will have...

I like to break shoulders and so does the .480 Ruger!

I don't know what would require a .44 mag east of the Mississippi. Much less a .480.

I would feel more comfortable with the .480 going after a Maine Moose, but a .44 Mag would work

Good point. So now I have to consider a 480.

I shot this out east, and I was glad I had something a bit bigger than a .44 mag. Just sayin'!

Plus, I have seen some really big black bears in North Carolina that would benefit from a bigger caliber. One thing that is so great about the .480 is that it really isn't that abusive when loaded hot, but it's definitely a big hammer.

Remember, there are no degrees of dead.

I like the idea of the 480, it is a heavy pistol at 48 ounces.

It's a meaningful caliber. A little extra weight is your friend!

For hunting, I have an old style Ruger Blackhawk 6.5 in .41 Magnum. It weighs 33 oz empty and 38 oz loaded with 5 rounds. It weighs a bit less with the stock grips but I have Pachmayrs on it.

It has not been converted. It is my most accurate revolver, weighs about what a 4" K/L frame does. IMHO it has plenty of power for deer and elk at shorter ranges.

I would love a 6 in GP-100 or L Frame Smith in the same chambering.

For big bear protection I also have a huge 4" Redhawk - in .45 .

I borrowed my BH 4 5/8 back from a buddy so I can shoot the two 41s side by side. Just waiting for some factory wood grips for the Redhawk first.

I’d like one of the medium frame Blackhawks in 45....with a 5.5 or 6.5 inch barrel.

Or a 29 is a little lighter and looks a little smallee than a Redhawk.

You can't lean on a Model 29 like you can a Redhawk. The Redhawk can digest heavy loads with nary a peep.
